Thanks for sharing! What is it like competing for such RFPs? Sounds like it's not for the faint of heart. Have you managed to make a pleasant/sustainable career out of this sort of work?

This is all awesome feedback, thanks! Follow up question: what is it like building products for acquisition by such organizations? Is this anything like building B2B or B2C enterprise software? What common requirements do orgs put on softwa

Considering there are some events filling up sporting arenas in the US already, I don't think it's too farfetched. I was at IEM last weekend in San Jose at that SAP Center; the LoL season 9 championships had it filled up to about

This is a very common problem for people getting into software development. You are not alone! A lot of other people in this thread provided some good advice to finding problems to solve, but I'd just like to comment a bit on how to so

I really cant agree with this enough. A very common example of model bloat I see is authorization logic, and libraries like Pundit do an excellent job providing a simple framework for extracting such logic into their own ruby classes.

I like that Trailblazer is promoting some concepts I'd like to see more rails devs use (service objects, form objects), I think this project will be a non-starter for most teams. But after giving the readme a once over and looking at t

On of the announcements the Servo team makes here is that they want to take a component written in Rust within Servo (ie: image decoder) and bring that into the Gecko project. Ambitious indeed! If that does happen, it would speak pretty wel

I'm not familiar with the situation here, but it's nice to see the Monit guys retracting what ended up to be a misguided takedown. Anybody know if there was any sort of formal apology made from Monit to the people behind inspeqtor

Not much point in killing a computer you've just unlocked for yourself. Much more profitable to use it as a spam node or launching platform for TCP/UDP/DNS DDOS attacks.

Shouldn't be too hard, all the rendering in minecraft is done in the client. All that needs to be done is tell client A to render state A and client B to render state B.

I've read about Dart, but I haven't used it much in practice. What does it do better than similar languages that compile to JS (CoffeeScript, Typescript, etc)? Specifically, why would one consider moving to Dart from any of the ab

What are the odds of something like this becoming core to how the IETF writes it's recommendations? Is this an actual attempt to address the surveillance issues that have become so prevalent, or should I not get my hopes up?

This is something I hadn't considered. Being able to do firmware updates to a device with an embedded instance of SQLite seems huge. Seeing as ALTER support is currently lacking, what kinds of approaches are commonly taken to work arou

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a major use-case for SQLite a database for embedded systems? In that light, I can't picture too many situations off the top of my head where one would want to change the schema. That
