I’d argue that the vast majority of users don’t upgrade their products. Everybody I know who isn’t already tech savvy just buys a new laptop when their old one feels slow or the battery doesn’t last as long. They don’t care about upgradin

Not OP so I can't speak for them. There's a bunch of ways to do this, ranging from more turnkey solutions to collections of scripts and extensions you can use. On the turnkey side, there's programs like ArchiveBox[1] which ta

Amen. As a massive ruby fan, I couldn’t put a finger on why I disliked ruby async, but you’ve got it exactly right.

Because this is going to come up, what's the advantage of using this over, say, weworkremotely?

Seconded, especially as most jobs clearly state in their requirements which time zones or jurisdictions they accept. If you're hand-picking them, it should be fine to add or scrape that data from the posting itself.

Really exciting to watch the developments in OCaml/Reason web frameworks/libraries. I love the language and wish I could use it instead of Ruby for my personal projects at least. Others that have caught my interest are: Sihl: htt

I looked it up, and there’s been a motion to dismiss that was partially granted, but the case is still ongoing as far as I can see.

Especially given the political nature of the channel, it's far more likely it's just about removing bots and spammers than a nefarious conspiracy. Besides, I'm surprised anyone cares about YouTube likes and dislikes, especi

In iTerm, searching for the text selects it, and you can use tab to expand the selection. Not quite vim, but it’s better than many other terminal emulators in that space.

Wait, Trump promoting chloroquine as a miracle cure and recommending bleach injections were okay, but Maduro doing the same can get him banned?

Not everywhere. Most companies here in India aren't looking to stay remote long term if they weren't remote friendly before.

I moved in with my parents for WFH, and apart from the time, I've saved so much money. No longer having to pay rent in itself made for a much bigger boost to my savings than any raise could've.

Working from home. I realised being in an office - especially an open-plan office - was setting off my social anxiety all the time. Working in a place where I could choose to engage with people instead of having it forced upon me made it so

Most mid-to-cheap end "HDR" TVs look absolutely awful on HDR. The colours are washed out and the contrast is blown out. If your device sends an HDR signal, in many cases it'll look worse than not having HDR at all.

I've mentioned this in a sibling comment, but my concern with that is that it wouldn't be enough for a 45W CPU that runs fairly hot.

How did you get good contact with the CPU die? I've considered an open air setup even before I had a backup PC to be bold with the laptop, but I wasn't sure it could cool the CPU.

First of all, thanks! > The biggest caveat in re-using old compute hardware IMO is power consumption This is a relatively recent laptop (it has a GTX 1060 inside!), and I can't get hardware that capable for cheap enough for it to

On the flipside, does anyone know if there's any caveats to "recycling" a laptop's motherboard? I've got a laptop that has awful thermals but decent hardware. One of the fans is dead, and I've attempted to repl

Worth noting that Samsung doesn't allow the bootloader to be unlocked in most (if not all) of its flagship devices released in the US. Although, there's paid services that could unlock the bootloader.

That’s how every JetBrains IDE subscription works, though. If you pay for a year, you get the version at the start of that year for perpetuity.

From the article you link: > Depending on the programming environment and the type of number (e.g. floating point, integer) being divided by zero, it may generate positive or negative infinity by the IEEE 754 floating point standard.

From a very personal point of view, I'm happy with anti-cheats not working on linux. Some of them are flat out rootkits, see valorant's anti-cheat.

Ruby seems to handle this correctly: >> 1 / -0.0 => -Infinity Although you have to put the 0.0, otherwise it treats it as an integer and makes it 0.
