Which glass surface? The oleophobic glass on the iPhone itself? If the print was copied directly from one of the phone surfaces, you'd think that the CCC would want to include that little tidbit.

> Just use brute force or dictionary attack over the wire. Given that most users use 4-digit pass codes, this can be done usually in minutes, almost always in less than an hour. It's clear you've never actually attempted this.

You're saying that Apple's 30 pin connector, introduced in 2003, was a copy of a "industry standard" that was designed in 2010? Maybe that's why you're struggling to find a source that "directly confirms i

Why? Because they spend a fortune on advertising. Anyone who's used a S3/S4 knows most of the S-"features" are pure gimmicks that a fairly competent engineer could implement in less than a week. HTC phones are much more

It looks like the exploit used a vulnerability in Apache Struts that was revealed on 7/16 : https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6081428 Given that, your question of "how can we completely avoid zero-day attacks&q

The timing of this looks right: Struts 2.3.15.1 was released on 7/16/13, and developer.apple.com went down on 7/18/13 for "maintenance". Plenty of time for an enterprising black hat to notice and exploit the vu

Not so much manufacturing - the chips/cameras/flex/cases/etc are all made somewhere else. Foxconn is an army of cheap Chinese laborers who perform the final assembly and testing.

These articles are largely pointless, since taste is subjective. For instance, I find a few of Leo's icons to look slightly better and a few to look slightly worse. Going down the page, JustD's, Zane's, and Ida's icon se

Wow. I'm sure there are examples that might prove your point, but those are some of ugliest icons I've ever seen. The second one looks like it's straight from Windows 3.1.

When did HN become such a cesspool of snarky low-quality comments? Every time I see a Glass/iPhone/WindowsPhone/etc article nowadays, I prepare myself for a deluge of shitty YouTube-caliber posts. Embarrassing.

Software is hard. Any company where you can ship production code with all of physical memory mmap'able world-readable/writable (Exynos Android 4.0 vulnerability) points to a seriously flawed software engineering culture.

The form factor of Lightning is top notch - all of the USB-variants seem terribly designed after using it. Too bad Lighting isn't free-to-license like Firewire was. That said, the design for this AV adapter is puzzling. I wonder what the ha
