If the west can’t supply China, the west should ban Chinese imports.

Love it. The dislike, down arrow, and other such options just serve to give the mob an opportunity to bury things they don’t like. I wish HN would get rid of the downvote.

I disagree. Downvote just lets the mob bury shit they disagree with.

The word "EVERGREEN" is painted on the side of the boat about 400 feet long and maybe 60 feet tall. I think it's fair to misinterpret that as the name of the boat, and not the name of the company that owns the boat. Especia

Most countries in the world have restrictions on striking. Including Canada, Mexico, UK, France, Spain, Germany, South Korea, Japan, and others. Most of our allies. I guess none of these countries are civilized.

The company said they could have it out within days, or it could take weeks. So what do media organizations report? "Suez Canal could be blocked for weeks." Always err on the side of hyperbole and extreme negativity.

>Both parties are heavily invested in beating and harassing strikers That is some impressive hyperbole right there. Police have attempted to strike throughout US history, but the ensuing mayhem caused legislatures to change the laws.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murray-Hill_riot There are numerous examples of mayhem when police go on strike. In most cases, the military, guard, or militia are brought in to maintain some semblance of order. There

It's not that it wasn't fun. It's that the media goes into absurd hyperbole on every subject. This boat was going to be stuck for weeks, and maybe forever! ...and now they'll shift to absurd hyperbole on some other topi

Illegal strike was illegal. Government employees are not allowed to go on strike. Can you imagine if police or military were allowed to go on strike? The potential mayhem has no upper bound.

That's too bad. Now the hysterical media will have to find something else to get worked up about.

Competing? On one hand we have businesses trying to pay people to do work. On the other we have the government paying people to do nothing. Wow gee I guess businesses just need to up their game.

It’s easy. Investment is a math game. What is the upside and downside of either action? First choice, I remain silent. Best case, the female CEO kills it and I make some money. Worst case she flops and I lose my investment. Potentially gre

You’re making it way more complicated than it needs to be. Most everyone pays for healthcare with pre-tax dollars. Others get it for free outright from the government. The cash benefit of government paid insurance does not need to be more c

You can’t make this argument and also make the argument that free healthcare is not a financial benefit. If US citizens pay twice as much as Canadian citizens, why can’t I argue that Medicaid is twice as valuable?

We don’t have free healthcare in the US. It’s disingenuous to not consider health care as a benefit with monetary value. These people would otherwise have to pay actual money for health care.

Democracy in the workforce would be giving employees an option to join a union, or not.

It means the employees can choose to leave and choose whether they want to join a union.

Right to work is only anti union because it allows employees to choose whether or not to join a union. Forcing an employee to join a union is absolutely not pro-employee.

I disagree. It should be a free market. If the employees don’t like their treatment they should leave and take a different job. I am sure there is a UAW job out there to be had. The most likely outcome from this is that Tesla moves more and

MIT has a living wage calculator[0], and in most locations in the US $15/hour is a living wage for a single adult. Amazon can't alter their wage scale based on your family situation. They aren't even allowed to ask about you

Amazon can’t control your family situation, and they can’t base pay on it, either. No single adult should be on food stamps with a $15/hour wage.
