A thought-provoking idea is that all of these "beings" that we can't all see are inventions by people for various reasons, the general goal being to make ourselves feel better about the world we live in.

I think this is a concerning pattern when the core usage of the software gets more complex due to the new features. If you can take a developer using the old version that was lean and simple, give them the latest version full of extra featu

As long as an app is architectured around having a data layer with "typed" objects, the need for SQLite to support strict column types is not too important. However, it does make handling more "advanced" types less stand

Note that this issue is specifically about microsoft-edge:// links (used in some internal Windows features). Not http/https. I do wish they used a more generic/portable solution, but this is for Windows-specific features

As with most complex questions, the answer is "it depends". I don't know what your startup will do, so I can only speak in abstracts: - Will you need to network a lot? If so, you should be close to the people you want to netw

As an entrepreneur, I wish I knew that university is a great place to network and build business relationships. That aspect has vastly more value in the long term than anything you learn in courses.

HTTP/1.1 also "works", yet we are moving to v2 (edit: more smoothly). Same for many other (low level) techs. But maybe IPv6 is so low level that it has a lot more inertia...

It boggles my mind that IPv6 has such a slow roll out (it's been a thing since the early 2000s = twenty years ago). I would have thought that all the major tech companies supported it years ago on all their infrastructures, websites an

I can't find how much revenue Apple is generating from iAd, but all hints point to a fairly small number. I'm guessing that Apple keeps it around to "help" small app developers who build free apps. And more importantly,

I think that Apple would only consider building their own search engine if they had the ability to generate (close to) these $15B per year in value. Since Apple wants to keep its privacy-friendly brand, these $15B would have to come from so

This issue is way overblown here on HN. In day-to-day usage, I have rarely been annoyed by these "inconsistencies". The best example to illustrate this article is: Installing a driver with the Windows XP layer. That's probabl
