Speaking in general terms here, because you didn't specify any course specifics. I wouldn't base your trade or part of your career on an online course alone. In order for the knowledge to stick you need to apply and practice it (l

I know what you're talking about. I remember feeling it often when I was first hacking away at QBasic in high school. I don't have any good suggestions on how to bring that "sparkle" back, other than to find projects tha

Agreed that cloud services may be using OpenSSL to transfer the KeePass database to/from the client. Presume an attacker obtains the KeePass database via a MITM attack on communications to/from this cloud service. Then what? The a

My two cents is that this situation is more prolific than you might think. My own theory is that most young engineers start out by valuing their own time -- but they find themselves in a situation like this. They then relegate themselves to

I started my blog as a personal journal more than anything else... so I didn't expect anything in terms of hits, comments or trackbacks. It was literally my own small space to record my life events, ramblings on technology and so on. O

I use grooveshark for 'casual' listening. For anything I want to keep and put on the phone or play in the car: Music is stored on a samba file server on the network as: Music/Artist/Album/file.mp3, or Music/Ar

In the linked markup, the difference between the bookmark star when the page is bookmarked (vs not bookmarked) is that the star is filled in grey rather than an outline. I think this is a subtle design problem that doesn't easily show

Did some research. To answer my own question: DTI is a debt-to-income ratio that is considered during mortgage negotiations. It's desirable to have less than a 36% DTI such that your monthly debts (CC payments, mortgage, car payment, e

You really can't play music in an environment where knowledge workers go about their day! That notion is crazy to me. That's like playing disco during a grandmaster chess tournament. Personally I could work with or without the mus

I also disagree with the premise that these situations are very abnormal. Ours is a big field which expands outside of sunny California, where you can't walk a few feet without bumping into a rockstar coder. In the rest of the world wh

As a consumer I personally haven't seen the 'killer app' needed to require such horsepower. Rather, it seems Intel is focusing on the next logical thing -- low power, more efficient chips.

Agree completely on all points. I've also seen the large disconnect between people who say they practice Agile and those who have actually spent time to learn it. Regarding the Agile manifesto. It seems like it's a relic of the pa

Same here, it is very difficult for me to tell levels of nested structures in yaml. Though I'm sure if I sat down and read up on it I could force it into my brain. But shouldn't it be intuitive to read without that?

I think you'll struggle to find a solid suggestion since disposable income isn't something people directly budget for; it's what's left over after you've ensured everything else is budgeted for. The thing is, what i

Yes, I have, but only because I was looking for items under a certain category. I would still have gotten the same usefulness if it were just a regular list of tags as opposed to a cloud. My opinion is that tag clouds are better served as a
