I suppose HMV executives will obviously have to go to prison for posessing copies of Deliverance, A clockwork orange and Mad Max to name a couple. Makes me think of: http://i.imgur.com/vEqEHxP.jpg

Seriously give it a few years. At 4, they'll eat the components when you're not looking. 8 is a much better age to start electronics.

You can always buy the Heritage Chemistry set bits separately. It's quite easy to obtain most chemicals and glassware worldwide.

No I'm not. I see on there instantly: Expensive, poorly designed decade resistance boxes that use pissy little SMT resistors that will catch fire if you have an accident rather than get a little warm: https://www.tindie.com&

When I was a kid we had kits for entire computers, radios, modems, test gear and stuff. What happened to that? Not impressed with flashing LEDs on string. ---- Edit: Add a rant as people seem to miss my point: Well all the kit companies dis

Some good points there. I've always kept an eye on such business practices. I worked for a SaaS ecommerce outfit a few years ago and they sold their stuff to all the competitors in the same market space. After a bit, they yanked it wit

Please don't make excuses for it. I've had to deal with the multi-day aftermath of an XSS worm twice. That's when you realise that it's as bad as it is. After that it was "get fucked" and move to phpbb which wh

As someone who had to look after a relatively large vBulletin install (13000 users) for a number of years, I wasn't exactly dazzled by their competence either! I'd go as far to say that vBulletin is a pile of crap.

That's the one. Mine doesn't have a touchpad either. I don't like having to move my hands away from the keyboard to use one so it's ideal.

I don't know what you're doing then, because I run postfix+procmail+mutt and nothing else and it is zero maintenance and hardly any config. I don't use DKIM or SPF or SpamAssassin. All I have is a RBL client restriction and r

Yes. Nothing particularly odd use case wise. All git operations started to fail if going back in history a few revs. Turns out a rev somewhere was corrupt. It didn't fail with a helpful message either.

This. Done this a few times. Entire process for a kiosk is: 1. Build a full screen app in Visual Studio with WPF. WPF is great here - 2d, 3d, interactive, animations, video everything, all without any code. This is beyond trivial and the to

What made me crave SVN after using git: 1. One corrupt repository. 2. The Git tooling for windows is horrible. 3. Stupid people setting up their email address and username wrong then pushing it. We have AD integrated authentication with SVN

It works fine. We have had hundreds of branches and it hasn't ever got in the way. A lot of bad press on SVN branching comes from the TortoiseSVN tooling on windows which TBH can be a bit crappy at times.
