The checklist seems to be here: https://www.who.int/patientsafety/topics/safe-surgery/checkl... As a software engineer, I'd hope this was done in software, where it could be trivially filled in by multip

Mostly, I'd agree. I have literally no idea how long it would take though, I couldn't in good faith put a number to it. I also don't want the work - Windows isn't an environment I have experience in because it's an

I find you have to do this, but it can damage professional relationships. Recently I've flat out said no, as gently as I could, to doing some work - porting a software stack to run on Windows. A customer is asking for an estimate to do

She does clearly credit the rest of the team, which is admirable as she's also clearly been key to this piece of work. Somehow though my facebook feed is already littered with images saying she was single-handedly responsible and no

FWIW I was thinking immovable wall rather than parked car for the 140mph impact. The wall is complicated enough for me without thinking about multiple crumple zones, handbrakes, etc.

This is the same physics I was taught in school as for two cars crashing into each other at 70mph I presume? Neither has a 140mph impact, although a 140mph impact would involve more than double the energy anyway AIUI.

I'm not so sure. I think I'd lean more towards quantity if it were a choice - my kids are very young though so right now I just want to know them for as long as I can.

UNPHAT - these are great, but I'd add one more - ask yourself if you're an engineer before making a technology choice. The number of projects I've had where the team has had one arm tied behind their back because they "h

I never had a raise as an employee more than 5%. I only once moved jobs as an employee for less than 50% and I tended to stay for 18 months to 3 years. I've been contacting for 8 years now, have nearly doubled my rate over that time mo

I've hardly looked at k8s, it looked like a pain to get a docker-compose file running in it the last time I looked. I think there was a tool to translate it to something kubernetes could deal with. That said, after the last four months

With k8s - you switched to it, now what? You have to buy server hardware, rent or build a room, run wires for electricity and broadband, build cooling, physical security, etc etc etc. I'm not sure that's the choice. You can run

I'm seriously considering my move out - currently thinking about doing the chateau thing in rural France. Frustratingly, I could do my job from rural France and strike some sort of imperfect-but-preferable balance, it's only reall

That's fair, but it still strikes me as a democratically weaker system for it. Has the Parliament ever exercised their veto against a president?

There are differences with the US model, which is obviously to be expected. A key one for me is that US president is elected by the people. The EU does not have that degree of democratic accountability. Some may think that a good thing. But
