I miss the days when corrupt politicians at least made the pretense of trying to hide it.

It really does feel like most tech leaders are having an internal struggle that they externalize and make all of our problems. Have you seen Musks Twitter timeline? That guy is so chronically online and desperate to be liked that it's

I wouldn't call the fall of the only socialist superpower at the time social progress.

Most of the shareholders are random rich people that have never lifted a finger in their life, yet get to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Why is it a zero-sum game to you? Why not advocate for all workers in the name of solidarity? There's no enemy but the class enemy.

There's nothing stopping us from creating an engineers union. Each field should have their own organisation.

We are what is called the labor aristocracy in socialist discourse: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_aristocracy It is still labor and we are still exploited - most the revenue we generate goes to capitalist inter

There should be a separate white collar workers union.

But software developers are the working class. Anyone who derives their income from labor is.

There's a lot of regressives here actively abusing the flagging functionality for censorship - ironically the same kind of people that'll tell you how much they care about freedom of speech (the unspoken part: but only if its spe

I do wonder if building software that runs on your own machine would be a market advantage in the EU. One could market strongly with the data privacy / sovereignty angle that resonates a lot more in Europe than the US.

This is where governments need to step in. We need grants to open source contributors as a national security priority. If you're helping build alternatives to American Big Tech, the state should sponsor that.

Are there any specific Microsoft products you would prioritize? I'd envision building a plug-in replacement to facilitate switching.

> That includes more than hacking and startups Is literally what the guidelines say. The political implications of tech should be well within that purview.

If Europe has no industry, why is Trump so upset about the trade deficit in goods?

Yes, I fully agree - this is a super important thing the EU needs to do if it wants any chance at homegrown competition.

I'd say claiming that tech policy relating to AI and it's global implications are not interesting to people working in tech and AI is a bad faith argument - calling it lacking intellectual curiosity is once again an attempt at a g

Same, I'd love if the EU sponsored the development of open source alternatives. I'm tired of the American tech industry and how it's towing the (anti-European) party line - just give me a way to make a living while building c

What would said tech independence actually take? Which American services would be highest priority to replace? In other words, if I were an EU startup, who should I compete with/try to clone?

Maybe it's time we realize free markets are ... bad sometimes? Why are we sacrificing our sovereignty to an abstract ideology?

Then we disagree and I'd challenge you on lacking the intellectual curiosity called for in the guidelines. But that's okay - as long as you don't see a need to censor on that basis.

Wouldn't you say international tensions based on tech policy are an interesting phenomenon and of interest to people working in tech? I'd say it squarely fits that descriptor.

Nowhere in the guidelines does it say anything about a technical perspective. It calls for things that hackers might find interesting - which I would argue the future of AI globally clearly qualifies as.

That is my understanding as well. However, the move was widely taken at face value and lauded around here. So why are self-proclaimed free speech champions censoring speech?
