A man after my own heart. My first job (at 15) was working in a tv repair shop, so fixing things has a long history with me. Repairclinic and their videos are great. Thanks to them, our washer and dryer are 25 years old and still run great.

Going far afield now, but a skimmer isn't going to get my pin, right? This was a card-present, atm cash withdrawal that happened. So POS systems store pins? I can't imagine them being certified if they do, or for what reason they

Or a lambda that didn't initialize, say, the customer ID and got it from the last run because of some edge-case in calling it. Ask me how I know this, um, exact case.

So, OT, but I wonder if this explains my recent atm withdrawal error on the part of wells fargo? A $300 atm, card-present withdrawal several hundred miles away (at a golf course country club) from where I had used the card less than an hour

Ug, I'm late to this discussion, but I can't find anything in the Musicbrainz.org documentation that provides the same access / results as FreeDB. In other words, from a "discid" (in Musicbrainz format or FreeDB for

It seems like solving the Sybil problem (a prerequisite to this scheme having any use whatsoever) might be something better on which to focus attention first, as it has other useful applications, even in one-person, one-vote democracies.

Really? I was unaware of this change, haven't sold a car in a while (but have sold several on CL in the past). I guess the spam level got too intense, which I can definitely vouch for. Lots of not-believable deals that were basically p

To be electrocuted has always meant death, until relatively recently. Because Englishe talking is good not, it now can mean what formerly meant "shocked". I still prefer the specificity of death for electrocuted. Keith Relf was el

Except, as noted above, real estate leases usually don't get renegotiated. I don't know if it's because of the long time frames or exactly why, but landlords frequently would rather leave a building empty than not get their r

That's power, not necessarily loudness. Loudness has to do with perception, which also has a lot to do with content. For most people (a fairly wide margin here) music sounds about twice as loud when it's +10dB.
