For one, hopefully the good folks of Mississippi will get some of their cotton growing and ship building jobs back.

You don’t use Twitter, but you’re absolutely convinced with religious convention that Twitter is a misinformation platform? I don’t know about you, but I quite like the first amendment right that guarantees safe spaces to speak our minds.

This is exactly what Elon was talking about how so many people still believe the multitude of hoaxes which have been thoroughly and objectively disproved. It’s as if people were OK with just going with the original drive-by media headline a

Please explain the large increase in black and other non white votes Trump got this time around, then. Or were those just the stupid ones?

You just treat a view the same way as a table with Ecto.

Like I've commented maybe 100 times on hn, there's more people who want Elixir jobs than there are Elixir jobs - it's not a real problem. Probably same for Rust. Especially when AI makes it so much easier to get up to speed o

Yep, I'm a big fan of building views in postgres and just hitting those with the ORM. I don't even use the join syntax in my ORM (Ecto) - if I need a join, I use a view.

This entire response thread looks like the classic AR N+1 problem ;)

The biggest issues in Rails come from trying to do things with the ORM that should be done in the database.

The problem was choosing Rust and SvelteKit over Elixir with LiveView (Phoenix) - especially coming from Rails where it’s an easy transition due to shared philosophy and even syntax to some degree. Rust is neat but complex and probably over

It’s pretty nuts, putting out your dirty laundry in public is a surefire way to self sabotage - especially in a work setting. In American culture, there’s a lot of “positive self help” talk about being open about these things. But the reali

Enough with the gatekeeping. I understand the fundamentals of how git works under the hood. But the cli commands are in no way shape or form, intuitive (just one example). But LLMs nail them every time when I forget.

Yeah, sure - if you have the memory that allows that sort of recall. For the rest of us, LLMs are like Alzheimer’s medication or eye glasses. Believe it or not, these types of esoteric commands are very difficult for some of us to remember

Russia is out producing the US on guided munitions and rockets fired from the ground as well (and missile defense). And icebreakers, of course. So it’s doable - just depends on priorities (ie, moving chip manufacturing back which seems to h

There's not really any DSL. You just put some TS in the frontmatter for fetching/transforming at build time, TS in a script tab (if needed) and the html is just basic templating that takes props.

This does look nice (as a functional programmer - Elixir, elm, etc and fan of coffeescript back before modern js). Even has pipes!

I don’t love js/ts but Astro is so nice. Don’t have to fiddle with react or graphql. Just upgraded to 5 beta and nothing broke. Really well managed project. Oh, and page load speed is insane.

My issue is the "it's the climate" narrative takes all the coverage and distracts us from a lot of the low-hanging fruit things we can solve (forest brush, beaver damns in Poland, etc) as well as other environmental issues.

Technically, you don’t even need to set up containers for Render.

I moved our entire stack from Heroku to Render in a day and pay 1/3 less. Render is what Heroku would be if they never stopped innovating. Now I’m thinking of moving to fly as they are even cheaper.

Moving from Heroku to Render or Fly.io is very straight forward; it’s just containers.

What I do is convert to markdown, that way you still get some semantic structure. Even built an Elixir library for this: https://github.com/agoodway/html2markdown
