When I bought this Mac it was actually completely fubar. The internal battery ruptured and ruined the main board, so I had to source a “new” one. The new one came recapped by the seller and I recapped the analog board myself, so it should b

I’ve got the Mac hooked up via an esp8266 running a SLIP server. Most of what I do on it web wise is through Gopher, it’s just the best overall solution for a computer of that age imo. Things like HNGopher and 68k.news are great, those kind

Very cool, somehow I’ve never heard of this, but it looks like it could be very handy. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll look into it and try it out on my home server.

Hi HN, I've been ruminating of this a little bit and figured I'd write and post my thoughts (I'm not a good writer, sorry in advance). I don't expect this to get much traffic, but if it somehow does my cable line probabl

That’s not really relevant, safety systems should be expected to work reliably, or report to the driver when they can’t (something my car does if covered in snow).

I have and I’ve never been able to understand tiling WMs. After using nontiling ( I don’t know the term) window managers since Windows 95 my mind is just trained for that sort of window management, anything else feels wrong and frustrating.

I lived in a place where they were banned and roadside signage highly regulated and it was awesome, some much less visual clutter and noise. Every time I would travel I’d be shocked at how much advertising there was.

Sure, but they usually don’t cost so much to fix. Most engines don’t catastrophically fail and in the given scenario an ICE car would be a better choice than a used electric with a reconditioned batter.

I feel the same way about Linux these days and I’m not an amateur. Hardware support wise it’s the best it has even been, but it feels increasingly unstable software wise. The fragmentation is crazy, things are hard to rely on long term, and

The huge lines are more due to the insane menu Tim’s has right now. It’s far too complex and requires endless context shifting from workers. The workers at my local Tims have been complaining about it for a long time. The half closed ones t

Of course we’re doomed, on a long enough timeline our only fate is extinction. The only question is how long it will take to reach that point, it’s not a matter of “if”.

It is correct, back in the Panther days when Safari was new the default home page was Apple.com. I’m not sure how long they did that for, but like you said, what else were they supposed to do? It was a different time, homepages were treated

I feel like it’s important to distinguish between the two, because seemingly everyone else does. Apparently most people don’t think it counts as a lightning strike unless the lightning hits you straight on the head. It doesn’t matter to me

I haven’t been hit directly, but I have been indirectly. I was working with some wiring inside a building when it got struck maybe 100ft away outside. All I recall was seeing the biggest flash of my life and then being ~6ft away from where

Same situation with for me, I heat exclusively with a wood stove. Oil is ungodly expensive and so is electricity meaning neither can compete with 250CAD/cord of cut, split wood. Costs me about 1000$ to heat my house all winter long. Su
