An example of what we are talking about is _mm_dp_ps (4-component dot product). It was heavily requested by game devs for SSE2 but didn't show up until 4.1. And, even then it wasn't much better than hand-rolling it with old ins

In my observations, GPUs are the way they are largely because Physics demands sacrifices if you want that kind of performance. Those same demands apply to CPUs, but Intel has been fighting against them because software engineers hate to ch

For >= 256 bit operations you need to decide to commit to them or not. If you go all-in on them and use them well, you will get the same work in less time and less joules than without them. If they won't help, don't use them.

There's not much use for AVX-512 in the kernel. But, from the people who are using it I've heard good things. It's an enormous collection of new instructions. But, a lot of them came from the Larrabee team --which was prob

Lua was originally created to be used by a group of FORTRAN programmers. Lua starts with 1 because FORTRAN starts with 1. FORTRAN starts with 1 because Math starts with 1 (Sum of f(Xi) for i in 1 to N)

Don't know much about TCL. But, if you are familiar with JavaScript, Lua ended up being semantically a much cleaner, simpler JS without all the WOT?? and committees to please. It is small, fast, simple, powerful and easy to embed. It&

Your readme lists the cache-oblivious data structures you tested. But, it would be nice to also list what baselines you tested them against. I’m curious if they were explicitly cache-aware.

No need to argue extremes. The title makes it clear that lots of groups have failed to solve the problem. And, that SV puts it self out as the source of solutions for the world. Yet they have to step over homeless to get into their offices

OO in Lua is the same as OO in classic JavaScript, just slightly more manual. In fact, in lots of ways Lua can be viewed as a cleaned up, simplified JS.

It's very simple. Single C file implementation. Binary blob keys : binary blob values. The end. If all you need is a bunch of blobs written and read back reliably while in a statistically unreliable situation, LMDB is great.

“Atomic transactions” is a feature needs formal support in random file formats way more often than people realize. Simply writing to a file at all in an guaranteed-atomic way is much harder than it looks. That guarantee becomes important

You apparently are being downvoted unfairly while you are correct. Writing to u64 then reading from u32 is undefined behavior in C++. Only reading from the last union member that was written to is defined.
