They are Turing complete in the context of a single thread. But, a single thread does not control the entire GPU. For example: In multi-vendor APIs, a thread cannot spawn another thread. The execution model of GPUs is complex and only speci

I’ve done some work on implementing this as a coder, not a mathematician. So, the following description is just how the process looks while you are implementing it :P Take the original curved image and put it on a super stretchy rubber shee

A game dev I know went to work for Google on Android. What he found was a team full of people who had given up on gdb back in uni, had worked for Google their entire career, printf debugged all day every day, took forever to fix anything, a

Shoutout to https://whitebox.systems/ It only really works with C-with-Classes style C++. But, the fact that it works at all is pretty neat.

Ideas around point-based rendering have been around for a long time. But, have not been widely used. Hollywood and games might use them for smoke, water, explosions, but rarely for solid objects. There has been a big explosion of interest i

I've been working on a personal project for what I call "semiliterate programming" ;) because I think "Write a book about your code that happens to contain all of your code" is a bridge too far for nearly everyone.

What I know is that people describe not having aphantasia like “I’m sitting in a room with a dog and a TV. Then someone says ‘visualize a stop sign.’ And, so then I’m sitting in a room with a dog, a TV and a stop sign. I’m know the stop sig

It had some significant differences. Mainly the fixed SRAM render target. Fun fact is that a lot of tech from the 360 GPU made its way into Qualcomm Adreno GPUs. Reading about the tiled render pass OpenGL extensions in the Adreno was very r

The SPEs only had cache! (And, a ton of registers.) What they were missing was RAM ;D But, even that wasn’t as bad as it was made out to be. People rightly moan about the awkwardness of asynchronously moving data between main RAM and the SP

“moving the pagefile to a RAM disk.” is a hacky way to emulate disabling swap :P In an ideal world, swap would automagically move stuff that you are not likely use soon out of RAM even when you use poorly written programs that don’t do that
