Wow, talk about hype. That kind of quote is like bubble era speculation, just feeding the frenzy. I always wondered why Slide was kept in such high regard when all they made was slideshows and facebook apps. I mean, sure the guy has a reput

If video is the most important thing in a YC app, why is it optional and not required?

I feel that it takes something away from applicants, and gives most of the value to the employer. YC reviews are different; you're being reviewed by hackers who don't care if you hair is combed or if you wearing a hoodie with some nintendo

Interesting way of looking at it. Although this problem is more of a self-concious/insecurity issue. Rejection is simply a numbers game; there's tons of applicants applying for single job openings. On the other hand, if your wife has a spar

I'm perplexed by your statement about there being "Good" and "Bad" discrimination. In this context, discrimination means judging someone based on their looks or other visible features from their video. If nobody believes they should be judg

Sure, you could take it there. But the reality of it is games do not have physiologically addictive properties the same way drugs and alcohol do. If you look at the cases where gaming addiction severely impacted a person's life, you would

That's an odd way of looking at it. To me, this is isn't even close to any sort of moral dilemma. You want to make a game and you want to make money. So you build a game thats fun, viral, and keeps people coming back. Last I recall, that's

I would say you just have to express how bad of an idea it is in one shot. A serious sit down and chat, letting everything go. If after that they still want to do it, then really, its up to them to fail and learn on their own.

The fail here is your request; you can't "turn" the userbase into anything. The userbase is what is is. That's why we have the upvote/downvote system. Downvote the articles you don't find relevant. Or ever easier, don't read them/comment on

Except that marijuana has never directly caused death (ever), is less addictive (almost non-addictive physiologically) and thus is far safer to use. But working for tobacco companies seems pretty frowned upon, definitely something I wouldn'

Questions: 1) Does your startup NEED the cash injection? Do you already have plans to spend it? 2) Are you not able to prove market validity before attempting to raising seed funding or investing?

Premium membership is a viable way of making money. I don't think any of this user group would like ads though. I think they'd be willing to pay for some sort of premium status. There is the potential for commercial gain here as upvoted sto

I might think that the issue lies within the actual product/market fit. You really have to make life better for the power user, as that pretty much defines how they become power users. If your product doesn't or can't make life AMAZING for

YouTube had a 3rd cofounder you hear very little about. He left to do grad studies but had contributed, and kept a stake in the company. You could negotiate a way out, take a small stake to be fair to the team, and let them continue it.
