seriously though, do you think github.com, with thousands of valuable high profile private repositories and hundreds of fancy features and millions of users, would be a more secure place to host the Linux source code?

I think most rational people would have said something like: "Steve, I agree that is an important detail but it does not warrant a phone call to me on Sunday morning. Send me an email. We'll speak tomorrow." The question is, why didn't peo

CVE-2011-2527 and 0011 are local attacks only, guest can't trigger it. CVE-2011-2212, 1751 and 1750 are serious, but mitigated in various ways making actual exploitation difficult (and conspicuous). selinux will mitigate it even further. Re

You start paying for an instance as soon as you create it, whether you're running it or not. To keep a disk image around for an instance without paying for the instance, you can use snapshots, which use a different storage system. We prote

Few things: Persistent local storage (hardware raid6 15k rpm disks). Higher performance - fast hardware and access to more cores to burst to. We also use KVM, which is substantially faster than Xen (particularly in 64bit mode). Fast server

Well, it would have cost me more than that if I'd bought it 5 years ago. Or 5 years before that. In 5 more years, it'll be even cheaper. In 5 more years after that, perhaps it'll come free with breakfast cereal. If copyright terms hadn't ha

I don't feel entitled at all. I'm just able to. I was just expressing how I feel about the situation. Even though it's trivially easy for me to get it for free, I'd be willing to pay for it - I personally find that interesting.

You'd never release a new version of anything that was slower? What if the new thing had 100x more (useful) features, should it still be as fast? Performance is a trade-off and sometimes it's worth compromising.
