`use v6;` is not mandatory in Rakudo. Off the top of my head, I don't think it's mandatory in theory in Perl 6, either. However, it is widely used to mark Perl 6 code, because it gives you a nice clean error message if you accid

I'm not sure exactly what the grandparent was trying to say, but seat belts became mandatory new car features in the US back in the 1960s. Airbags became mandatory new car features in the early 1990s. On the other hand, I believe seat

Kids today may not remember it so much, but the Polio vaccine was a Very Big Deal at the time. I'd be surprised if any reasonably well-educated older American didn't know who Salk was.

Without thinking about it too much, I think I'd say "going to college" for undergrad (even at a university), "going to grad school" for a graduate degree, and "going to med school" for a medical degree. (

I do have an Android device with 16G main memory and a 64G SD card. Despite having plenty of free space on the card, I pretty routinely run out of space on the 16G. That's because most apps can only install there, and many apps can&#

Does anyone know what the author (Dennette A. Harrod) is up to today? Some quick web searches showed his homepage[1] was updated in 2010, but his resume doesn't have anything more recent than 1994. I got curious when I saw his resume

Since becoming reacquainted with the poem a couple of decades on from 8th grade English, I've read it as regret at the way age reduces your choices. That comes from interpreting the fall woods as being the autumn of the narrator'

Where? I admit I haven't read the entire thing (as it got boring fast) but a search on a couple of the pages doesn't turn up the word Lilypond?

Dunno about OMN, but Lilypond seems to have quarter tone support: http://www.lilypond.org/doc/v2.19/Documentation/notation-big... (third staff down)

Yes, I find it really frustrating that the article doesn't contrast at all with the previous state of the art. I seem to remember that the Yamaha pianos you mention already had significantly better than MIDI reproduction capabilities

Geez, I've been using it for some time now and never had a clue it was supposed to save your position in an article. I just use it as a convenient way to transfer links between my devices.

I used it for about the same period on the Commodore 64. On a 64K 1Mhz machine, it compiled faster than any tool I use today does on a 3Ghz machine. The resulting code was compact enough to make 64K seem like a lot of memory and drastical

This articule weird because it's holding the anthems to a standard that doesn't make much sense. In traditional music and hymns, tunes and words are semi-independent, and it is completely routine for one tune to have multiple set

This is a great point. I put a high value on writing efficient software, but you have to know when to do it! For instance, I wrote a script to download the O'Neill's tune collections in ABC [1] the other day. I wrote it in Perl
