Sometimes with enough data and powerful enough computers you can brute force ideas that otherwise might take forever to examine. If you can identify the reasons why certain symptoms appear, you can begin to format potential solutions faster

I would argue there is no such thing as software engineering. To me engineering has to live in the real world, i.e. gravity, wind, temperature, material properties, water, etc. Software exists in a world we create, while it may interact wit

Old reddit is all I will use, the new reddit may as well not exist. It funny how a good idea over time can turn into absolute trash if you try hard enough. I find it amazing how you can run a decent sized company and not see how horrific yo

Driving installs is a giant business that also needs to die. At a previous employer we took one small app we had maybe at #150 in travel in the App Store. We paid $10K to some app install driver company as a test. I watched as people in cou

If this is true, how do you enforce it? Send goons to California to beat it out of them? If Google has no presence in Australia they can simply block the whole country. Or replace the home page with a "Your country is out of order"

I wonder if you could do this with period buildings or houses/industrial complexes/stores. Maybe that's too complex to manage. But it's still amazing.

No the difference with Apple is they don't make money off of your data, they make money selling you devices. Google needs to know about your data in order to sell it or ads or whatever to third parties.

As an engineer (ok software engineer but still) terrible engineering is always interesting: why would anyone build a ship like this without a keel, and why would anyone put 2000+ people into a ship designed for 500? Also why would anyone pu

It's hard to imagine that the tiniest pixel spec of a galaxy hold hundreds of millions or more of stars like our own which might have planets with people on them. Of course they might also be 12B years gone.
