So, they're making an imitation of an imitation of Helvetica?... I'm so glad I use a system that includes the real thing.

I immediately noticed that too. Their old design was very nice and it fit with the general theme of "Lift". This new one is just plain ugly.

MIT or BSD. Whatever you do, don't use AGPL (I'm going to get a ton of people trying to convince me that a web site is considered distribution of the project, but I refuse to believe it.

Sorry, meant Xserve. Apache can be modified, yeah, but you'd have to edit the config file manually, bypassing the graphical interface that Mac OS X server gives you.

Yeah, seriously. I can't even imagine how I would use this in production. Super expensive Xcode + built in apache that probably can't proxy to a backend server all that easily? It's just too inflexible to be seriously considered.

Here's a public server for trying it out: http://openspora.com/ Running stock Diaspora code, but it's got a LOT of problems (which is to be expected from pre-alpha software I suppose.)

EDIT: Upon further investigation, I've found that one dyno is not enough to run Diaspora on Heroku. You'll quickly start filling up your request queue and it will slow down to a crawl. It works. heroku addons:add mongohq:free Then ap

I can see that you're providing a prediction, and it was actually spot on accurate for my search term very early on ("golden retriever"). How do I actually have it use that term?

How does that gemset stuff fit in with Bundler? It's much easier for us to just keep Gemfile in the git repo, run "bundle install", and then let Bundler worry about installing gems and keeping a clean gem environment.

We deal with large photos as well, and it's usually just a matter of making sure the only thing in memory is what's currently showing on the screen, and optimizing which size of photos we're using so that we can use as little memory as poss

Cute idea, but it doesn't have predictions and the results are quite bad. Typing in "NoSQL" doesn't come up with the recent Heroku blog post about NoSQL.

Yes. You can post just text if you want to, but if there's a link, video, quote, or picture that you want to post, it's obviously going to be pretty easy to do that as well because of the nature of Tumblr.

I would've recommended Posterous a few months ago when they were in their earlier stages, but their "switch to Posterous" campaign has left a bad taste in my mouth, and the web interface has actually gotten incredibly confusing. Nowadays I

Ah, a feature chart... The source to Unity3D is available, and it also has a very comprehensive iPhone deployment option. Apps made with Unity3D are still being approved. Unity also released version 2.1 a few months ago that added a ton o

I can't stand small scrolling areas within pages. This one is better than most because the content actually scrolls when I slide with two fingers on a Mac, but it's still more difficult to read.

This makes me quite annoyed as well. Whenever I've asked Twitter about it, they simply say "The applications still use an OAuth access token to access the API, so it's still a secure authentication option." That's not the problem. The appli
