I think I get less interested in self-driving cars the closer we seem to get to them. It honestly just stresses me out. Driving is something I enjoy doing. I’m not sure I will ever feel comfortable taking my hands off the wheel. This has li

I love his Bond films, just pure fun. And, god, he was sexy. They don’t make ‘em like they used to! Few favorites: - You Only Live Twice (1967) - Never Say Never Again (1983) - Goldfinger (1964)

Not sure when this happened, but many credit cards offer an additional year of warranty protection if you purchase electronics on them. I had a $750 motherboard replacement reimbursed on a MacBook recently when it was 2 months out of warran

Totally, just run things on 8080/8443 in the container and then use your privileges outside the container to map 80/443 on the host. Don’t use low-numbered ports until you truly have to, IMO.

Totally agree; many cars in the 20-30k range have plenty of “auto-pilot” features already. Sure, my Honda doesn’t stop at lights that are green[0], or ignore stop signs in parking lots[0], so I guess there’s still work to be done. [0] http

In the past I’ve been a dev at a company that didn’t understand software development at all; and fighting these battles is exactly why I left. Different strokes for different folks, but it’s great to work somewhere that gives me the tools I

Upon further reflection, the magnets might have been a necessary tweak to the AirPower concept. They couldn’t get it working with a large matrix of coils, on which you could lay the phone/watch anywhere. Instead, the combo charging mat

SAM templates are a subset of CloudFormation templates; that PDF could be three times as long and still not have the content I needed. Yes there are examples, but there wasn’t one at the time that mapped to what I was trying to accomplish.

True, the alignment help would be great. I had a Palm in like 2006 that had a magnetic wireless charging dock. Ended up modding a Galaxy Nexus to use it in the car.

Totally! Apple is amazing at getting the tolerances on magnets, hinges, etc just right, but I don’t see how you could get by without a suction cup or something on the bottom of the hockey puck. A downside to wireless chargers has always bee

I guess my confusion is basically that: if I want to use my phone while it charges, I just plug it in with a lightning cable. I don’t need it to “wirelessly” charge if I’m having to connect something to the device anyway. It seems to be a w

MagSafe wasn’t flush, no; but I don’t think this is an inherent requirement. I think it’d be possible to make something flat on both the cable and device side. > swapping the lightning port with a MagSafe one would make the phone pretty

Depends how the magnets work; sometimes these types of things are pretty opinionated about the orientation. I think a “smart connector” approach like the iPad could also be used one-handed, but point taken.

Let’s talk about the return of MagSafe! It seems...kinda dumb. Instead of plugging in a lightning cable, I can now stick a hockey puck to the back of my phone? The “safe” in MagSafe came from its “yankability” without sending your device fl

Couldn’t agree more, the dev experience was awful. You basically have to develop against public AWS services, my dev machine became a glorified terminal. They do seem to be iterating on the tooling quickly, but I wouldn’t use it again if I

I disagree with the constitutional angle. I do think enforcement is possible, it's really no different from enforcing the law IRL. I don't think having no terms and/or requiring private companies to have no terms is a better

I think the “how” is pretty simple: the company is made up of people, the people define a set of principles, and adhere to them. They don’t have to accommodate everyone (and in my opinion, shouldn’t). I think the hard part is doing this in

What TV’s fall into the “dumb” category these days? I can’t go back from OLED and I don’t think anything at that price point will lack the “smart” features, unless it’s a commercial offering.

Mine is an Android OLED model from 2019 — I guess it’s more correct to say I haven’t _noticed_ an ad. I use my Apple TV exclusively for “smart” functions, and the TV wakes up and goes to the correct input whenever a connected device wakes.

To make sure I have this right: Graphemes are comprised of code points, code points are comprised of code units, and code units are a chunk of binary of variable length depending on the UTF flavor. UTF-8 uses smaller code units so that stri
