Same, I just write my own SQL and row mappers. It's not a huge deal, and then I actually know what the schema looks like (and why queries are slow ;). Hibernate has way too much magic going on under the covers. I have loved Dropwizard

The popovers work for me in the latest Chromium (if we're talking about the same thing)! I love those. I do think Wikiwand goes a bit too far in the "slick" direction; Wikipedia is more functional. But it's nice to play

Wikiwand[1] is something I've been using for a while that makes Wikipedia a bit nicer to look at. The concerns others have voiced about the long line length are addressed by this plugin. It also has a great table of contents on the lef

100%, I'd much rather use the command line if I need to work with Docker, or a database, or the cloud. IDE integrations for these things are limited and have just never worked with real-world projects. I slept on debuggers for too long

Same here, though it doesn't seem like they've upgraded fully. The Dockerfile[0] for their Kubernetes base images are pinned at 1.8, for example. I bit the bullet and built Spark against newer JDK's myself in the last couple

Kubernetes manifests are no different from any code one would write. The first few times you need to accomplish something, you consult the docs. After a while, you know what you need. If you find yourself doing the same thing over and over

I asked ~50 candidates for some code I could look at, and not one had anything public to show me. I think being active on GitHub and having personal projects is a great sign, but it's so uncommon that you can't really knock people

I run FileBrowser [1] to share media with friends. I would suggest trying IPFS if you don't want to forward a port from the internet. You'll get similar download performance to FileBrowser once your node integrates with the netwo

I think this sort of "we'll give you a pass on this one if you just pay the ticket" is a super gross practice. I recently got a camera citation for not stopping completely behind the line before turning right on red. Fine was

I've run into this type of thing too, it's soul-sucking because it's so easy to avoid. I wouldn't say I do TDD per se, but I definitely write tests for many things to prove to myself that it's working. Many devs jus

I've been in the private beta for a couple weeks, and the service is looking great. My issue was that `containterd` couldn't pull from GitHub Packages' due to some OCI vs. Docker differences. The new incarnation fixes this :)

The core Ingress object is super minimal, basically just "listen on ABC host+path and forward requests to XYZ service". But Ingress controllers can do all types of things, and might need more context to properly route the traffic.

Ingress is still a bit of a mess, IMO. The reliance on annotations to ensure functionality with a specific ingress controller feels strange in the context of other k8s API objects. I understand why Ingress works this way, but it doesn'

Deciding if your code is a bottleneck is definitely important in deciding how much to worry about asymptotic behavior. But in a lot of cases, it's no more complicated to use a set instead of a list, for example. Totally agree though th
