Perhaps what we really want is a flag to cause the compiler to error for code that would produce undefined behavior and give warnings for the rest? Turning all warnings into errors is a great "worse is better" technique but it see

It really is amazing: Microsoft have fixed so many long-standing problems in Windows 10 and made something that is very close to offering a wonderful, refined user experience. However, they have also doubled down on undisableable focus-stea

I don't think it makes very much sense to blame the FED. See https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/interest-rate , which shows just how atypically-low interest rates currently are.

I agree that most application-level code doesn't need new macros (you rarely have to develop a new macro to add a feature to an application) but there are definitely a lot of very legitimate use-cases for them outside of Shapeless. To

In my experience, annotation processors are definitely way harder to reason about than def macros in Scala (especially blackbox ones). I find them to be about as hard to reason about as macro annotations despite being less powerful. They ar

The thing that Scala has and Kotlin completely lacks is the tooling to allow you to avoid runtime reflection. Typeclasses and macros (and especially both together) are way too powerful-yet-principled to give up once you're used to them

That's definitely a fair way to describe things (even if it is strictly less precise than just saying "log_32") but if you're going to do that, you should call all of the logarithmic-in-size operations "effectively

log_32(x) is only a constant factor of 5 off of log_32(x). If we are going to call log_32(collection_size) "effectively constant", we may as well call any log-complexity operation "effectively constant". If you call the

It is sad how much waste will occur because OCI used Docker's flat layer list instead of appc's dependency graph. This will lead to a tremendous amount of unnecessary network traffic and disk usage globally. I think this is a Beta
