If ever there were a use case for a lawsuit punitive damages, some poor company that is driven out of business by a well-documented case of this would be it. I know I'm being naive here but I feel that it should be clear to anyone with

Yep. But how would you correctly deal with finalizers in the face of those copies? See my comment a bit deeper in the thread.

You wouldn't need such a sophisticated tracker as Rust has because the implementation here rules out mutable borrows but you'd still need something that looked like ownership tracking or something that looked like garbage collecti

Exactly! Now let's just amend the value types proposal to include ownership tracking! Should be simple, right?

Heh, perhaps the right answer is "Let Go hit its natural limits and kill itself" rather than trying to get its stewards to fix it. I suppose that might teach a whole generation of programmers what happens to codebases over time

At first reading, that sounds nigh-impossible to get right in a world where values on the stack can be closed over.

Google recommends avoiding exceptions for a completely different reason though: Google has a massive C++ codebase that was built when C++'s particular implementation of exceptions had huge technical issues that made dangerous to use da

I've always figured that the point of this was to allow a) overall costs to generally scale with the "size" of the customer while simultaneously creating a sticker shock effect on migrating out of whatever cloud. For example,

Well... It's the sort of thing so-called anti-trust laws were designed to prevent but it's the definition of anti-competitive, not anti-trust.

Prices will go up! So you are right! The immediate effect would definitely be inflationary. Underneath that, though, UBI would be a slight equalizing force on actual purchasing power. Therefore, I guess even in that inflated economy, ther

I think that about sums it up perfectly: If you don't know Scala, learning it just to script with is extremely inefficient. However, if you already know Scala well, all you need is the right library of functions to have a really nice (

The general rule is that you want as many layers of security as you can get away with without making things impractically inconvenient. In this case, the first step is probably not letting the user's code run as root in the container

Fwiw, briefly looking at the tags in the typesafehub/config repo and the "history" section of hjson.org, it looks like Typesafe Config predates hjson by several years.

Browsers make changes like that to their UIs all the time. I highly doubt that a member of the general public would notice the difference. Heck, I doubt most developers would notice.

I believe that type 5 (and I guess type 3) UUIDs both have legitimate use cases, especially when data migrations are involved. Both of these types are supported by uuid-ossp but not by pgcrypto.

I wish uuid-ossp was in there... Being able to generate type 4 and 5 UUIDs on the database side is extremely convenient, especially during migrations.
