HIV is an incredibly manageable disease these days. The day to day effects are on a similar scale to Diabetes ie take regular medication and watch for specific symptoms that could imply it worsening. Otherwise there relatively little day to

I don't buy this as a reason. The UK has a thriving startup scene, as do certain cities in Europe. Yet that hasn't translated into higher pay anywhere near as much as it has in the US.

Damn. Is that mostly just salary? Tbh I wouldn't want to live in London. Even on £120k I'd still have a long commute and probably struggle to own property / not want to since the market is terrible down there.

Can anyone explain how the US got to such ridiculously high salaries for Tech compared to most other countries? As someone working in the UK I'm more than a little jealous and tempted to try the visa gauntlet though it seems like a lon

I don't agree wit that assessment. There's a difference between fun and unprofessional. You can treat your teams like adults while still encouraging them to have fun.

That sounds more like an issue with the tips system. It's one fo the worst things about visiting the USA, combined with taxes not being in the price that is.

There's a reason that Scrum Master / Agile Coach roles exist, they help train up the team to work in a self organised way. Sometime a Product Manager or Engineering Manager does it as part of their role but it's the core of w

That's the more important point here. Figuring out what gives you enjoyment and motivation is HARD and we shouldn't beat ourselves up if we haven't figured it out yet. The process of figuring it out is messy and chaotic but s

If you're a software engineer that security exists in every major city. Plus the cost of living to salary ratio is so much better that it's far easier to save an emergency fund.

Same with the Scottish central belt. There are plenty of good jobs up here. Part of the reason for the London centricness is that relatively few people realise just how many good jobs there are outside of London.

That's true but it's also true that getting access to flight data is far easier the larger you get. Therefore the flights metasearch industry (and travel metasearch in general) will tend to consolidate to an extent.
