I've built something with Lua because the lovely Love2D game lib prescribed it. I hated almost everything about it (globals, stdlib, silly typing discipline, debugging, syntax). Rewrote the whole thing (when it was small) to Kotlin and

I hear you. I like Elm, Haskell and Ruby for syntax, as a personal preference, and no curlies-for-scoping. But then I think the language models/paradigms are more interesting about these languages.

Same could've been said for Java right? Not saying Kotlin is perfect (it certainly shared some JVM problems like statics not being mockable, therefor needed DI everywhere in a testable codebase), but it sure did improve a the DX lot.

C++ is a giant language, it has accumulated sooo many features, so a small language can be cut out from it that offers a more concise set of features, may Zig is that language. Perl same story. And Ruby may be that language that was cut out

Just curious. "Defense" in this article and in "DoD" is a euphemism for military, isn't it? I mean: these technologies (and the DoD) are perfectly capable of offense (attack). All while they prefer to call themselve

YAML is more like JSON or TOML. XML is a whole other beast. So it really depends on your usecase. Do you need to be able to import several independently developed vocab and use them, possibly namespaced, in a single document... Seriously, g

I think sealed interfaces it not quite the same as "tagged unions"-style enum's with payloads. Also, it does not matter much anymore, the whole std-lib is full of exceptions-to-implement-multiple-return-values.
