What if a 4-slot-wide GPU had 3 'dummy' slots that plug into the other unused PCI slots, no electrical connection, and only acted as support?

Lovely to hear this kind of thing on HN :) The free market looks like 'chaos' because it has millions of people making economic prioritisation decisions, as opposed to a control economy with few people. Millions of people making p

That old 'victim mentality' traps people into not realising they have agency and power to improve their lives. Thanks for the comment :)

Thank you! Good to see a bit of that can-do attitude here :) Lots of things are possible if you assume the other guy wants to help, and ask!

The insane rigmarole involved in replacing the battery in any BMW springs to mind… I agree! ‘Overly complex’ indeed.

Definitely, any more than 3 kids and you need to buy a van (or 4WD aka SUV for americans). Or so we thought... turns out that once they grow bigger, you need a 3-rows car anyway because if you jam 3 kids next to each other they fight like r

I searched on several sites to find out what their memory management strategy is but couldn’t figure it out. GC? ARC? Whatever Rust does? Would love to see where this fits. Exciting to see a neat new language though! Also my second favourit

Thanks for explaining! That indeed sounds like quite a niche. Can I trouble you to ask how you discovered this niche? Is it very difficult to interface to these propriety systems?

I’m very intrigued, as I have a couple ideas for things I could manufacture with my 3D printer + some custom electronics too, but have never invested the time into. Could you by any chance please share what you’re making? Or just a rough id

This is something i've struggled with for a while, working remotely for years now, and not wanting to be depersoned by my team never seeing my face. I tried a logi 920, which i thought was pricey for a webcam, but the image quality is

Super exciting, congrats on the new release, it's been so long since the last release! One question I have is: Is there any plan or prioritisation to get Firefox running on Redox? Totally understand if that's way down the line of

Some theories: * Lucrative FAANG jobs have hollowed out the indie dev market * Apple's cultural push for $1 apps has made it hard to charge sustainable amounts for indie apps * The rise of iOS has pulled ObjC (and now Swift) devs away

Just curious what people do once they're at a stage in life (eg kids) where taking a paycut isn't very doable? Do they simply bow out of the startup world? I wonder if people at that stage have the experience to execute startups v

I've also pondered how these sorts of VC things work. Are they just targeted towards people fresh out of university who can afford to live cheaply? Seems a lost opportunity to hire experienced (expensive) people who can execute with no

I'm working on an open-source project that I think should show some value if we can get it off the ground. My concern is that this sponsorship model is a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem: You can't attract sponsorship at early sta
