I've had good experience with users blogging and twittering about my search site, and this is probably not only cheaper but also more effective than paying for PR, especially if you're in the Web business. Here is the "buzz" in the blogosph

Whenever this question comes up I recommend the Alexander Technique. That worked for me, reply with email for more info.

> But I mean, people's life are essentially an attempt at optimizing their standing in the system, are they not? Scary! But actually I used to think that way...

Take a look at SOLR: http://lucene.apache.org/solr/ that makes indexing very easy

Terraminds twitter search ( http://terraminds.com/twitter/ ) uses Common Lisp for everything but the (external) indexing engine. Btw, did you use a search of hacker news to find our usernames?

I do realise where this flood of bad titles comes from: Eugen Herigel went to Japan and learnt archery from a "Zen Master"... here the author is quoting some wacky Zen story in the prelude to make the story sound better, that's all.

Can we stop misusing the word "Zen" already? I practice Zazen and I rewrite code... they don't have that much in common!

Yes, I've done a major project in Common Lisp and had to do so many things on foot, I just ran out of steam. I guess it depends on how many libraries you can use as they are, and how much you have to write yourself anyway.

This would only work if everyone in HS either expects to work on web applications or the trend spreads to all industries. That might take a little longer.

Hey, give us some credit! Humour me on the "smart hacker", but this German search founder will steer well clear of the government projects...

From http://www.futureofwebapps.com/speakers.html : > JPaul Graham is the author of On Lisp [...] is this a typo, or has he hidden a second first name from us for so long? ;)

How does a p2p search engine improve the results upon a non-p2p search engine, e.g. Google?

Just a small point, but on Firefox on Linux the "Lost Password / Register " links don't render properly (unless you make the font really small). Makes the page look a bit messy.

I think the trick to preserve the "old reddit" on a new site would be to allow people to choose whose stuff they get to see, i.e. filter by users. That way the early elite doesn't have to get washed out.

Well that works out nicely, my search engine is 100% Common Lisp and I'm just as obscure... ;)

That would have been my answer to the parent: I use an external monitor, mouse and keyboard at home. I've managed to get the ATI Radeon under Ubuntu to display both two desktops or only use one screen or the other. But it was quite a fight.

What are you doing and which part is the speed bottleneck? As I've mentioned before somewhere on here, I'm building a blog search engine in Common Lisp. That is indeed performance critical as you can probably imagine and I've found SBCL to
