This may be related to the countries where these people come from. This was on HN a while ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16411227 . On a broader scale less privileged people may pursue a career in STEM in these co

I am using bind9 for this and just looked up how to prevent it. It seems that bind9 has a (non-default) setting which prevents binding external host names to internal addresses (of which you control the A records).

As I am mainly a Java guy it has burnt into me to never rely on .toString() output for code flow. It seems to me that this is somewhat similar (or has the Unix world a gentlemans agreement that output has an API contract). I'd never

I am pretty baffled by the fact that anyone relies on output parsing for verifying a signature. Is this common? I suspect that we will see more vulnerabilities like this in that case. If one relies on a command line tool for doing this, wou

Some of the reasons are not very compelling. Some thoughts: 4. Other planets are spherical: This rests on the premise that earth is also a planet. This is also the problem with no. 5. 8. Shadows of sticks: The earth could be flat and the su

When that happened I saw a photo of his plane with doors open so that you could see the cockpit panel. From the glance it was equipped with everything you could wish for. Afair he was caught by darkness but otherwise reasonable visibility.

I do not hold a license but have plenty of simulator experience. Do they not teach how to use an attitude indicator even for a VFR license? Or how to do an instrument scan? I thought this is pretty basic. Even with a good forecast, you can

Afaik the standard does not support this, therefore a browser does not support it. If you control both endpoints one could set this up. But what's the point of you do? You would certainly be open for monitoring and altering traffic sti

NoScript, uBlock or uMatrix offer this (largely). Fingerprinting relies heavily on Javascript. Many sites work just fine without it or with first-party JS only (fingerprinting is mostly done by third-party trackers).

Thanks. What I had in mind applies to distinct statements not expressions. Funnily the chapter starts with the following caveat: It is recommended that code not rely crucially on this specification. Code is usually clearer when each expres

Can malicious actors issue Windows 10 updates? I heard this for (improperly implemented) application updates but not for Windows 10 updates. Microsoft has strong incentives to prevent this and done a good job so far. I agree with you if MS
