Maybe you really can't measure 'grit' unless you put the student through several orthogonal tests and see how he does for the worst. e.g. to determine whether the monkey or the fish has more 'grit', ask the monkey

Quaternions are more efficient yes, but I would prefer the more general Screw theory.

They chose the lowest priced company because they didn't know how to spec the tender properly and to do a proper risk analysis. The lowest costs, of course, will win out in this case.

I was careful to put the Algebra after the Groups. :) Look up Matrix Exponentials and Logarithms, or just follow the link I gave above.

Yes, you are referring to SO(3) but SE(3) includes translations.

Skipping the formalism you can get directly into the practical aspects in this book. Modern Robotics by Lynch and Park Chapters 3 and 4 pre-preprint of book / more info available here http://hades.mech.northwestern.edu/

if a dedicated civil engineer can pick up some law books and make it seem he was some high powered lawyer team, can a dedicated lawyer pick up some engineering books and build a bridge that can survive SF's 'Big One'?

I'm glad that we share the same understanding. By any chance do you have any teaching background? As for myself I had 8 years of industry experience, followed by 4 years of teaching, then back to industry.

The programming assignments are a proxy to real life problems you will encounter. In real life often there are no answers to copy from. It is also not realistic to expect the instructors to provide a unique questions for everyone. A bad act

Seems like a wierd article trying to support octonions. I've graduated from quaternions using Lie Algebra/Groups (not that I understand them completely) but I find it much more general that it handles translations in a much better

If you are interested in dystopian fiction of these sorts, I highly recommend Manna, by Marshal Brain. In any case, don't think it will be that dystopian. There is competition from elsewhere in the world, you know.

1/0 = 0 is just plain lazy. So is 0^0 = 1. Now some might argue it is a matter of how you define the operators. What I say is that then separate them cleanly. e.g. pow(0,0) = 1 powr(0,0) = NaN

I don't think this is done for the sake of efficiency, but rather latency. For example, if you had a underwater data center that sat in the middle of the atlantic ocean in between new york and london, you could do some serious trading

Yes. The chaos part is where management fails to appreciate the time and resources to make things fault-tolerant. :)
