A protein is a chain of amino acids. There are 21 different amino acids. The alphabet of proteins is made of 21 different letters. DNA strings are sequence of Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid (DNA). There are only 4 of them named A, T, C, G. The al

Apparently publishing in this journal is free (no fee required) and articles are accessible on the web for free. So to me it's free as in free bear. However there seam to be also a severe review process. So eLife is not as open as Redd

Exactly. Reviewers expected to be experts in a field can only check claims against their own knowledge. Their role should be recognized as limited to that and not to have some monopole on the "real truth". Fear of error could mak

I guess we are supposed to bring our desktop computer in the coffee shop ;) it's for laptop users, but this is so oldish. Who is still doing that ?

Ah yes. I agree. Doing things with these simple neurons is complex. On the other hand a 3 year old kid can sing and dance at the same time. How can it be so complex? ;) It is a fascinating problem which is still lacking an answer.

What is so complex ? Neurons compute a sum of its input. Neurons are connected by synapse. A synapse has a oefficient that weights the input. If the synapse coefficitent is the real value c and the value of the input neuron is i, then The

It's not hilarous on an iPad 1. Nothing happens beside the prompt blink. How could I look insanely busy with that in a coffee shop ? ;)

What a troll! Anything more concrete to justify what you "think" or should I say believe ? I don't see what could be "conspiracy crazed" in my comment. It looks like you believe that if someone knew how it worked,

Why the down vote ? This is a pertinent question. It's a problem we will face soon or later. Internet has also it's problem. The ostrich attitude or obscurantism about them is plain stupid. My answer to this question is that dynam

It depends what you want to do. Do you simply want to get some experience in turtles or try to go for the rabbit? I think we are in front of a major disruption. So in order to get a good starting point in that domain I would look for very s

Calling them fascinating would more approriate since there is no way to understand what these numbers mean. It's like the Avatar film without the sound track. Not sure if it's really interesting yet.

This is like antibiotics. The natural selection process will push people to use more secure communication methods etc. The conclusion, for me, is that repression is not the way to go and makes the problem only harder to monitor and control.

Me too and this is frustrating. With 64bit processor we would expect bigger ram since data grow it's size. 1GB seems too small and I fear I'll hit the memory size wall again too soon. May be the next iPad will have a bigger ram.
