Here's a table showing the fraction i/n in decimal (white columns) and in dozenal (blue columns) for i=1,12 and n=1,12.[1] There's absolutely no way I can get most people I know to mix the alphabet and numerals. I'll def

Please give me an example of how base 12 arithmetic is "much friendlier" than base 10. I've just skimmed the PDF... it looks interesting but a bit cranky. I'll edit when I have a better idea. Table 9 is just... ridiculou

Wouldn't the compression depend on how many symbols you used? I guess you meant "shuffle a deck of 3 billion different cards"?

This is a really honest question: How do you sleep at night being the founder of a company with half a billion dollars in deficit? How do you go to work everyday? Is this "normal"? Is this expected? I really don't understand

They're really different points of view, with different goals. There's studying how life works at various levels, and there's designing systems from the ground up. Both complementary!

And it's only been relatively recently considered as an option. You don't have to go back far to learn that the stated objective was cultural assimilation. The situation seems to have changed for the better in the last 50-60 years

Indeed, that's why I mentioned I was not going to speculate. It was just surprising, as I never watch TV, or Netflix.

That would be interesting. But having a completely modular phone with hardware kill switches would be better imo. That way you can just dismantle it when not in use. Put it back together when going out. Switch the mic on when needed etc.

I had a similar experience. My girlfriend watches a lot of Netflix. She was listening to Gotham when she asked me to look up the name of one of the actors on IMDB. I fired up Chrome on my already opened MBP, typed IMDB in the search bar and

What I found the most useful for my use case are the git submodules documentation[1] and this blog post[2]. Read them and you'll have a basic setup in no time. Some people want to automate everything and have modular configurations dep

I erased my disk before installing El Capitan. I wanted to force myself into good habits. I'm currently learning how to manage all my dotfiles, vim plugins etc with git. I'm not quite there yet however. I read his article before e

I was talking about the "feel", indeed. So for example, if someone wanted to experience what a Lisp is like, I could point them to Scheme. I want to know what "Perl" is like, but the fact that Perl 5 and 6 share the same

Yes. For me it makes no difference because JS is not enabled. So for my use case, it is acceptable. Visit the Surface Book page without JS. You'll see it renders perfectly fine and all the information is there!

So, for someone who has never read or written Perl code, where should I start? Perl 5 or 6? I get that they're different languages, but I want to see what "Perl" is like.

Disable JS on Apple.com and reload the pages. They should render flawlessly and give you back responsiveness, without the animations. (I'm talking about their iPad Pro and Mac Pro product pages, not necessarily the whole site.)

When I view the iPad Pro page on Firefox latest with NoScript blocking Apple.com, it is much more responsive than when JS is on.

I think the difference in number of users is partly due to the asking price. I wouldn't use DO if they charged 50$ a month for a VPS to use for mocking up apps. For my use case, 5$-10$ a month is the most I want to pay in such early st

We can push this further and expect your "reality test" to become practically useless some time in the next 50 years. That is, when no matter how well you analyze a video/picture, you can not tell if it is CG or not. What hap
