One thing I haven't seen mentioned is thermal throttling. Performance per watt absolutely matters if you're working in a place where the temp is 75deg or hotter. Those powerful Wintel laptops will certainly throttle down. The M ar

I've seen various articles about this and frankly, yes lots of people know it's an issue. I'm tired of hearing about the problems, does anyone have any ideas for a solution to this issue? Maybe creating a curated index of sit

I'm sure those people don't want to give up their iPhones and AC either (which also are not "natural").

I wish way more websites used the / or ctrl+k to bring up autocomplete menus like the Laravel or Tailwind websites.

Yeah...what about retirement accounts? If you're not putting money away into retirement, you're either bad at managing money or just scraping by.

Good. Parties are bad business for everyone except the partiers, they generate a lot of noise for the neighbors and put much more wear and tear in everything. Still, I see Airbnb allowing these on a case by case basis. The problem is that e

This. If going back into SWE was easy, I'd take 6 months off that, go into construction, get paid to get fit and learn new skills, and then come back to SWE. Much better than just going to the gym.

I don't think software gets in the way of getting some experience working on cars. Cars still need their tires rotated, alternators swapped out for new ones, new brake pads, oil changes, refilling liquids and occasionally troubleshooti

I like to do the oil change on my car, not because I love it, but because it's a good reminder to myself what life is like for those less fortunate who didn't have the same choice. Not to say there aren't any people who don&#

What's a Coffee Engineer? Are you engineering coffee plants, or is that a euphemism for a barista? I've started seeing the word engineer get appended to a lot more job roles these past few years; Sales Engineer, Technical Support

The solution appears to be rather simple here. Just establish "office hours" and put them in the calendar or something. These are times when you will be available to answer any questions. Otherwise, unless a true emergency comes u

Changing water price on demand is not easy, but I can see dynamic pricing on parking meters ranging from free suring periods of very low usage to a few dollars a hour during high usage.

I fully agree, but what does this have to do with letting workers work less as productivity increases? Are you implying that stage would only occur if productivity gains are spread equally across the world?

You are proving my point. Advances in productivity have led to a lowering to the barrier of entry. Anyone can code now. So why,(in theory) would a business owner let their workers work less when someone else is willing to work longer hours?

I don't think this is going to happen. Increases in productivity eventually lead to race to the bottom in terms of prices. Which means whoever owns the means of production are not incentivized at all to just let their workers work less
