I suspect that it's more about optics than practicality. Not all diversity topics are political, but most diversity topics are probably outside of what the mods believe to be within the purview of HN. Making it a separate category bin

I've seen comment citations in the past. I still can't figure out how to get those to work.

It seems ridiculous to me that you would feel a need to disagree over the mere fact that OP has an opinion. It's just so dismissive to call a person's opinion naive without offering any counterpoint or constructive criticism.

Somehow, this doesn't strike me as the kind of change black people were really asking for for. Then again, who am I to speak for black Grindr users (grindees?)

It's not immediately obvious which terminal is which. I feel like the text is sharper and, as a result, more readable in the right window, not sure if that agrees or disagrees with your thoughts

I suspect this is for two reasons: * Many popular languages today predate modern asynchronous computing. This makes async-as-default impossible because it's an afterthought * Async computing is harder to learn and confusing for those j

In that scenario, the utility value for the utility monster would have to be enormous. We're talking something that would probably also result in human deaths if it were to go unhandled, like triggering a war or nuclear meltdown. I fee

Question: how is that mathematically different from bounding by negative & positive infinity?

Yeah, it's not surprising that you can blow out a weighting system if you... blow it out. If we're modelling utility in situations where human life could be endangered, you should probably tie some amount of utility value to risk

Not sure if I trust this source, can anyone attest to the credibility of Wall Street On Parade? The site itself seems to have an almost accusatory tone baked in.

Isn't it culturally normalized in AUS to wear full skin covering when under the sun? I seem to remember being told that most Australians wore more long-sleeve shirts and jeans than t-shirts and shorts. I think that such a level of skin

Ah, the parent comment is actually correct here. Dead Cells is a modern release with a released Linux port. Unfortunately, it isn't interacting correctly with the Steam overlay API and the issues haven't been fixed for months. Run

It's funny, I agree with your points, but I'm concerned for a very different reason! The Fed is an institution staffed by unelected, career technocrats. It's not supposed to have such sweeping powers (and, by charter, it real

I'm reminded of this article[1] I read a couple weeks ago... maybe the bond market is a more apt comparison than the stock futures market? [1]: "Why active bond investors can beat the index when active equity investors can’t"

Traders would be correct, in a rational market with perfect information. I'm not always a big fan of behavioral economics, but I think the relationship here is pretty intuitive. FUD is real and it causes (is?) volatility. We can't
