A fantastic book by Vernon Vinge called “A Deepness in the Sky” toys around with this idea a lot actually. There is a virus that can release neurotoxins and it is flipped in very specific parts of the brain with a MRI-like device. This can

These especially suck in China. It’s especially painful when you are finally free and clear of the great firewall only to be stopped by a mistuned fraud filter.

I have had the absolute joy of working with gRPC services recently. Static schemas and built in streaming mechanics are fantastic. It definitely removes a lot of my gripes with REST endpoints by design.

Thanks a lot for sharing this video! This is absolutely the kind of thing that I hope to find on HN. Plan to spend all of tomorrow on this.

I’m not sure about this. This kind of integration test would almost certainly be performed in a closed course (parking lot / garage).

This is absolutely happening at scale in Chinese malls and even those small 7/11 style corner stores. Correlating profiles with Alipay/facial recognition/WiFi/Bluetooth tracking.

This is definitely a corner case and the amount of such corner cases balloon into numbers difficult to boggle quickly. I agree this is an egregious miss, but absolutely understandable from an engineers perspective. I’m sure no one is happy

This generates pressure, driving up prices by constricting housing supply sure, but what is preventing SF from constructing lots and lots of new buildings? If there is pressure to increase the amount of available housing, then the governmen

My biggest frustration while browsing in China was reCAPTCHA. Most websites would load fine, but then they would detect that I was in a new location and this would trigger their account protection bullshit and ask me to complete a reCAPTCHA

Things like this are always tough to see on the micro, because individuals that didn’t do anything wrong are losing their jobs. On the macro, it’s tough to blame the business for doing the right thing for themselves. The market places immen

Is the gas density gradient really so significant that it allows a balloon to move towards the front of the car? Any way we can add some calculations to this?
