Years ago, there was a map shop in Vancouver that sold a small collection of old maps. I managed to snag a few before it inevitably went out of business.

If you are in CA for a tech job, a good plan is to get established and experienced and then eventually move somewhere else that's nice and cheap and work remotely. You'll continue to earn lots, be able to buy a house pretty quickl

This is a fantastic resource, thank you. I really enjoy these old hand-drawn maps. I've collected a few myself, including a German map of the north coast of BC, Alaska and eastern Russia, including Kamchatka, unfortunately undated but

Great to see they mentioned creatine and carnosine. Creatine in particular is notable for its proven effectiveness as an athletic supplement but it has a host of other, lesser-known benefits[0]. It's only found in animals, although you

I came out of knee surgery and after waking up, my first sight was of two female nurses just staring at me hard. I have no idea what I might have said and I don't want to know.

This can even be done locally if your tests start and populate an in-memory database like Derby. Before anyone says it, I’m not talking about ordinary unit tests, but they can be part of the test suite.

His general point is that the point and click interface is a blunt tool and there is room for specialisation. The POS example in the tweet-rant is ugly and non-intuitive but the perfect tool for the job. I'm not sure how I'd impro

I agree with much of this mainly because as a teenager in the ‘80s, I witnessed the speed and efficiency of secretaries navigating Wordperfect’s non-GUI. The POS ui in the tweet thread is similar. There’s certainly room to rethink the use o

I re-read the four novels some time back (Ham on Rye, Factotum, Post Office and Women) and they were still effective. My reaction to them was a bit different from when I was in my 20s, of course (I'm now 50), and also knowing what I kn
