Pretty much everything except performance benefits from immutability and persistence, which is why using anything else as the default seems insane to me.

I don't know what you mean by Clojure being data-centric rather than web centric. Requests are data, responses are data. Plenty of people are doing web-dev in Clojure. Edit: I would also disagree with the language being complex. I

Clojure's data structures are implemented using trees that have a 32-way branching factor, so each node has 32 children, instead of the 2 you'd see in a binary search tree. A lot of things you might expect to be O(1), like checki

I'm sure there is a difference, I just don't care. They're still damn fast and the semantics of immutability would be worth quite a large speed difference to me. If you do happen to be doing something where the difference is

Somehow the difference between O(1) and O(log32 n) has never actually been an issue for me in Clojure.

Tiling window managers (i3) and the trackpoint are two things I don't think I can ever give up. I think I'm basically going to be on thinkpads for life, or at least until other companies start adding trackpoints to their laptops.

I haven't ever had to mess with drivers with Mint and my x230. I did spend time to set up i3 and configure it to suit my workflow. I view these as "sharpening the axe" types of activites, and don't really understand wh

I'm a total noob to haskell and I'm not sure I understand the code well enough to ask an intelligent question about it, but I'd love to see you/someone ask on the haskell mailing list/stackoverflow/reddit-haske

To be clear, this is benchmarking a go-like channel abstraction, which is nicer than callbacks or promises imo, which is why it's nice to see it's performant.

I just changed the random number bit, not the 10000000 part, and it took ~100x longer. No idea why.

Isn't most of the country obese? And don't we breed crops to look good over being nutritious? Aren't large portions of the population without reasonable access to grocery stores?

I don't really understand the existence of these blog services aimed at developers when so many thousands of static site generators and rsync exist.

I really can't imagine what would lead you or anyone else to think that's a good signal. I guess maybe it could possibly be good if you're hiring someone to do cold calls or something.

I want to say yes, but it could just be because I can't imagine having my coding needs satisfied by coding for someone else. I suppose there might be people who are truly satisfied with their jobs out there.

I generally hear the advice write everything you can as functions, then use macros for making things easier to express. Locking functionality up in macros is probably bad, making things convenient with them is fine.

It sounds to me like you're lumping things like writing for loops and mutating state in with the inherent complexity of the algorithm. I think reducing the ability to create abstractions like generic map/filter increases cogniti

A lot of people just clone their code to the server and do "lein ring server-headless", (lein is the clojure build tool) which starts the server. You can also package all your code and its dependencies into a single jar, then copy
