Wasn't Bill Gates who patented something like this idea many years ago?

Failed as in it produced not working code that would take longer to fix than if I re-wrote it myself. Or, in the case of user interfaces, the generated UI code simply was useless and did not even resemble the original UI.

This would really useful if it worked with legacy code. For example, you could migrate all that COBOL code into Java or Python, or all the Fortran scientific code into C++ or Python. I tried to migrate a twenty year old Visual Basic 6.0 pro

If the simulator is as good as the iOS' simulators then you must test your app in a device or you will be flooded with bug reports at launch day. As noted elsewhere, Apple is setting up labs in some cities, everyone else needs to buy t

You are forgetting museums. Before the internet was widely available I visited the Electricity Museum in Lisbon which is a repurposed power station. They had a simulator of a power station with operating instructions and, according to the s

It does, I still have some software applications that are developed in a Windows XP VM under VmWare Player (the VM is more than 10 years old!). It is also quite cheap if you need to do professional work with it.

Yes, just look at the amount of reviews of old cameras on YouTube! Of course, this is software so it will be easier to find than an old camera or lens but I am also sure it will also be celebrated as a timeless genre.

The file of my desktop app is a SQLite db in disguise, I could use this to open these files in a web version of my app, I suppose. I know there is a javascript implementation of SQLite out there but maybe this has better performance.

Same here with Portuguese keyboards! I gave up on them 30 years ago and adopted UK or US layouts. For a long time I wrote a kind of pidgin Portuguese due to this but eventually learned the Portuguese layout by heart using both US and UK lay

I live in an archipelago of volcanic islands and asked the same from an enginner working in the power company. According to him, geothermal is only viable above a certain amount of power which restricts it to the largest islands. For the sm

Foraging for plants is actually quite difficult. You can try it, go into the woods for a weekend and try feeding only on plants. There are very few edible plants outside of fruit in tropical places. It is easier to catch small birds and rod

Adblocking is a problem created, in big part, by YouTube. I used to watch YouTube on the IPad app and I would get 5-10 second ads at the beginning of the video every now and then. That was ok but, at some point, I started getting two or thr

The difference is that you can't control the phone from QuickTime, you can only view it. That is a pity because it is easier to control the phone with a mouse when developing apps (less tiring).
