Hello! First I would like to say this is a very cool writeup. I'm not a computer scientist but do dabble a bit in neural networks. Is it possible this could be used to build a convolutional neural network?

Many billionaires are not valued based on their "liquid" holdings but on multiples of some composite blend of their company's growth rate / revenue / profit / hype. Are you saying your friend is liquid and that

in 2015 sure, when the alternatives were Sublime Text and Atom. Now Jupyter + VSCode ( in ssh mode is a killer feature ) will crush anything JetBrains can put up. DataGrip is pretty nice but lack of extensibility give it a limited lifespan.

I mean, the alternative is to grind out an eking existence on nights and weekends until you're bootstrap profitable and then a "Chosen One" gets funding, or a FAANG comes along and eats your little niche for breakfast...the m

Caesar III was one of my favorite games, but Aoe2 and Civ II ( both came out around the same time IIRC ) are the best strategy games of all time imo, followed closely by Civ 5 ( but I have no time for games anymore haha )

saying "Citus is open source" doesn't mean its as simple as running `yarn install citus; yarn run citus`. Its is much much more complicated than typical open source. You pay for support for a very good reason.

I’ll take that bet. 10 150k public sector employees vs 10 250k private sector, its going to be a slaughter in terms of productivity in favor of the private sector. In fact I would take 10 private sector engineers at 250k vs your 20 public s

Isn't the difference though, that Leela is a pure RL implementation whereas NNUE/SF still uses some tablebase stuff?

The top tier in finance are NOT crushing the top tier in tech. No way. All these IPOS + Faang are making 10s of thousands of millionaire mid-level engineers, thousands of decamillionaire VPs and angels, and dozens of billionaires, year afte

Upvoted not because I agree, but genuinely want to read discussion on this. I used to agree, when I first started doing Android development and "relearned" Java since playing with Applets at age 14, but threading made me seriously

I think you can make more money, a lot more. It seems you have revenue as much as $200 per month selling these books, in total. But I have to say, when I was younger ( and a lot poorer ), I paid up to $200 for a single college textbook. So

You're wrong. Look no further than at the Soviet Union and Communist China for examples. While Microsoft was being built in the US in the late 80's...what were Russian and Chinese innovators building? The Russian Bill Gateses were

Probably because your optionality is so low. If you invest the time to learn this and then don't get a $350k job, what's your recourse? Furthermore, the applications of KDB+ in broader industry are few, so you won't come out

It’s environmentally friendly to mine asteroids, so in a way, it will always be “cheaper” to pollute an unlivable rock rather than our only sustainable habitat.

Arrogant is a tremendous understatement. There's a chance that 10 million years ago on some other planet existed a far more advanced civilization than humans could ever imagine, but they died out after 1 million years. So they would ha

PSA has done this in terms of heatmaps with sportsdatalabs. Personally I would invest into a video AI for let/no let system, as well as better camera systems for out of bounds calls ( like in tennis ). Also, switch to a lime ball on a
