He is the second-richest person in the world and has virtually nothing to lose from a nationwide shutdown or the unpredictable cascading effects that will come from it. The other 327 million people have a lot to lose.

Is Bill Gates an elected official? Is he a medical doctor? Sorry, I understand that he means well, but we need more democratic engagement and less opinions from billionaire industrialists.

No, you are not imagining it. Freedom is difficult; most people can't handle it and want an authority figure to guide them, especially in times of (perceived) threats. "People want to be told what to do so badly that they'll

The individual countries of the EU have not coordinated on this whatsoever and I can't see it remaining in its current form post-crisis. We're probably looking at a more loosely-defined trade union and a trend away from further in

I'm not even necessarily arguing that not locking down is the right move, but rather that we should be able to have the conversation as to whether it's worth it or whether there are other, better solutions to this problem (lik

Absolutely. People are using potential death counts as a reason for all these draconian measures. And yet, there are numerous other causes of death with straightforward, clear solutions. But we don't shut down society over them. In my

Sure, this is a legitimate concern. But I don't think black-and-white thinking is really the answer here. There are solutions in between shut everything down and keep it all open.
