I think it's a lot more usual to have your ticket and then your whole damn team decides to argue for hours on how you should do it, just because your manager lets it happen. This happened with my last job and it really pushed me out.

What this misses is what I've always struggled with getting promotions, the article is all about what the individual can do, but has no talk of the org you're in and which orgs will actually promote you: 1. The org and company doe

I don't think many of them at all ever recover themselves like that, after a certain point you just don't have the altitude to fix it all.

This makes perfect sense to me. The plane was an interceptor intercepting the ground, there's no bombers at all involved!

This is a good one, but I think the most impressive is the cornfield bomber. The pilot ejected due to a flat spin (just like what happened in Top Gun, RIP Goose). Now a flat spin is a kind of spin and stall that tends to happen when the ce

I have had this problem a LOT recently, although in the past it has like you've said, been easier to review code. First, let me blame microservices. I heard your eyes roll, but just wait a minute. Second, there's all these new fr

I've never ever heard of a quota where I do interviewing, which is tech. As the article is about Apple I thought tech was assumed, and not the roles you are talking about, which are obviously different and I have no experience in.

I think you should look at the UI for ArgoCD. It has a UI that has some diagrams and it's all driven by kubernetes and gitops. Note you don't make the diagrams in here, but it makes the diagrams by itself.

As someone who's done a lot of interviewing, I don't think I've ever seen easier criteria for women interviewing. If anything, it's the opposite.

I've heard this said that men are promoted based on "talent" or "promise" or "potential" while women are promoted based only on results. Results are a lot harder than hype. Especially if people don'

Totally. Having retirees would also quickly require a reasonable medical system - another thing that small towns struggle with providing.

Right, although nobody really has a guarantee about their job, not even government jobs. I think what it comes down to is the number of jobs you could take if your job is eliminated (and this is where your point about remote work being saf

While I don't disagree with your premise of monotonically increasing home value, now it has me thinking: There's plenty of cheap land where we could make cheap houses. It's just in the middle of nowhere. Why isn't Amer

I agree with you that AI probably won't have better than human customer reps access to systems and solutions. Then again, most customer service reps are so limited that I can easily see an AI having an equal amount of power and discret

I actually emailed Noam Chomsky asking questions about Manufacturing Consent and actually got a reply. I always thought he was really cool for being so accessible to those who just had honest questions. I really hope he gets well soon.
