This is a common talking point of the CCP, but it is not the truth. When the state protects the rights of all people within its borders, those people grow to trust the state; they choose to work openly with the state and each other instead

I've lived in a tiny urban apartment for so long that just imagining 1200 square feet makes me agoraphobic.

Hard, intimidating things get easier and less intimidating the more you expose yourself to them (at least in maths; can't say the same for bears).

You're right; my post was a mistake. I regret that I didn't read the article too carefully before posting. Alarmingly, instead of getting ignored or downvoted, I got a bunch of upvotes. What gives?

Can anyone comment on the feasibility/state of the art for extracting lithium from seawater? I've found an article [0] which describes a specially made membrane which allows lithium ions to pass, but nothing larger. If it's r

Can anyone recommend books on designing watch movements? I'd like to build some scale models in acrylic/MDF using my university's laser cutter, working up to CAD for a MEMS mechanical movement. An art project.

IIRC one solution is to use pressurized hydrogen gas pumped through a heat exchanger instead of explosive charges. That way, the pressures and temperatures involved can be controlled precisely.

This sub-thread is an exercise in showing how absurd the 1% chance of getting abducted (on a given day) would be. Don't take it too seriously. That said, you're wrong, and nobody is ever allowed to be wrong on the internet. I will

0.99^365.25 = 0.0254, so a kid going out alone every day would have a 2.54% chance of surviving the year without being abducted or run over by a car.

Can you point to something said in the video that isn't true or that you disagree with? If people believe passionately in something, is that grounds enough to discredit their belief?

Why do you use the term liberal as opposed to something more general? I think the descriptor 'tax-collecting' might capture some of the reasons why a government might want to ban Bitcoin (if they could).

I agree that Canadian engineers don't always adhere to the purported ethical principles of their profession. On the other hand, I hear about far fewer white collar crime scandals involving engineers than people who are not engineers. .
