Honestly with Tim Hortons I bet the number of voters working there are quite small. They are one of the biggest users of the Temporary Foreign Worker program in Canada. Many locations are full of foreign workers. Some of these are students,

This is definitely true for the creative industry. I used to be a professional musician, and now work at a well known tech company doing Production Engineering. I work remotely in Canada. I watched lots of creative friends move to New York

Lol Americans call me out almost immediately as being Canadian just because of my accent. There are many important differences between the two cultures. The most important IMO is being less hellbent on “freedom” and understanding that somet

As a Canadian I disagree with most of this. Everyone I’ve heard whine about being called a racist or a Nazi seems to in the next breath say something racist or at least homophobic. So you might want to take a look in the mirror if you’re ma

$200K comp and 2 weeks of PTO. I don’t know how people handle only having 2 weeks off per year. American working culture is bizarre.

Yeah they rallied around it since the alternative is to just put everyone on an equal platform. Gatekeeping is good in areas like climate science where certain groups have a large incentive to spew demonstrably false information about it.

The musicians plugs I have sit pretty close to flush with my ear so you would like be able to sleep with them better than off the shelf stuff. I’d recommend going to an audiologist and inquiring about this scenario.

To add to this, the cool thing about musician’s earplugs is they try to attenuate the sound in a way that roughly conforms to the equal loudness curve. It isn’t perfect (the highs are often still knocked down more than I would like) but in

That theory is put forward in the book Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. Great read that will make anyone reconsider the foundations modern humanity is built upon!

Kenji is the best. Food Lab is always on my kitchen counter. Highly recommend it for anyone trying to improve at cooking.

Turns out most people wanting to do international transfers without a middleman are criminals. Regular people are for the most part fine with international transfers going through banks, likely via SWIFT.

Lol give me a break. This was a handful of people directly involved in the protests occupying Ottawa for three weeks who had their accounts frozen. Comparing the governments of Canada and Turkey is just absurd.

by cardy31 5y ago
Right but it will be allowed again like next week. After a three week occupation, clearing things out for a few days seems pretty sane.

You really missed the point. Only a small number of people directly involved with the convoy had this happen to them. Regular donors are fine.

Wow the libertarian tech bros are really coming out in force on this one. Unlike in the US, most Canadians are okay with trading some small freedoms for the greater good. As a Canadian I have no problem with these power being used in this e

You can run Redis in a persistent setup. So each Redis instance has a replica and both master and replica write out to disk. You still don’t get transactions, but depending on your scale a transaction for every job you enqueue may be imposs

Dairy is a bit different though. Allowing the states to sell their dairy into Canada would be cheaper, but their regulations on what you can put into milk and dairy (antibiotics, hormones) are much more lax than Canadian standards. Because
