Yes, agreed. I think in this industry we ought to sometimes reflect on how hard we expect everyone to work, and how hard we push people who may not always be in situations where they should be pushing. I'm generally a believer that har

I addressed this in the comment below and sure, stress comes from lifestyle. By lifestyle I'm referring more directly to diet, choosing not to smoke/do drugs, exercise, etc. I was a lifelong athlete, non smoker, healthy eater.

No, I am talking about the high-stress job and abusive partner kind of stress.

Sure, it can be. But that's about as disempowering a thought as you can have if you need to try to live life as a cancer survivor. If you have any inkling that something may have contributed to its cause then you potentially have agenc

I went thru very aggressive cancer treatment a few years ago (am a woman in my late thirties) for a type that was def not lifestyle caused nor hereditary. So far so good. I have received great care but no one has given me so much as a hypot

Sometimes it can be as simple as asking yourself, "what if this were fun?" What would have to happen? Well, I'd have to have a different attitude and find something I enjoy about it, for starters. Listening to an extremely en

Cleaning isn't the issue, and I'm speaking for the women I know here but it generally is more about parenting load than household chores. Feminism is also very difficult to characterize broadly: first and second wave feminism was

This doesn't address your desire for discussion but I just want to share that I have been loving https://radiooooo.app/ for music discovery, it may scratch an itch you're looking for.

Age is just a number. Unless you're a professional athlete, particularly from now on your mentality will have a bigger impact on what happens in life than your actual age ever will. Ageing is a privilege denied to many. Don't wast

Lots of women resent modern feminism to some degree for this very reason. (I am a woman, and have many close female friends who discuss this). Each and every one of us has never had an option not to have a Big Career. At a minimum, we

I'm definitely not comparing people working on a SaaS app to emergency docs and nurses, but this dynamic happens a lot in startups and it's something to watch as a manager. People go to the most effective people with their problem

Too few people these days understand the delicious sensation you get when coming round a bend, dropping the clutch, shifting gears, and feeling the whoosh of power that results from a mechanical interaction between your body and a machine.

A helpful framing I once got from a nutritionist: "processed" food exists on a spectrum. Could you make it at home, or at least conceive of how to make it at home? (i.e. a can of soup, a baked cracker); or would it require a lab a

I agree with much of what you say, but I'm not sure the dystopian conclusion is the main one I'd draw. Improving your ability to connect with and enjoy/learn from people all around the world is one of the main value props of

Most modern SUVs are 'underpowered' too. They take the same lame engine that goes in a non-sport family sedan and drop it in a larger, heavier car. If you want performance, you usually buy a specific type of car.
