Nope. And I don’t need to. That is the beauty of abstractions and information hiding. Just read the docs and assume the library works as promised. To clarify, the LLM did not tell me about the specific library I used. I found it the old fas

Extremely likely, yes. In this case, since it was an unknown unknown at the time, the LLM nicely explaining that this class of algorithms exists was nice, then I could immediately switch to Wikipedia to learn more (and be sure of the underl

In my context, the scale is small. It just passed the threshold where a naive implementation would be just fine. > What would happen if the "AI" and web search didn't return anything? Would you have stuck with your impleme

I’m pretty much in the same boat as you, but here’s one place that LLMs helped me: In python I was scanning 1000’s of files each for thousands of keywords. A naive implementation took around 10 seconds, obviously the largest share of execut

Regardless of how much “choice” there is in a market, FB made an anti-competitive play. Now we all have n-1 choices. The question of whether society should allow companies to perform anti-competitive actions should not be “will we be left w

If the purpose of an acquisition is to quash competition that is bad. Monopolies are bad. Another purpose of acquisitions is to acquire a new capability that you could not do in house that you do not already compete on.

I would not want to work so closely with someone trying their hardest to minimize the benefit to me. Since life is for living, we should work on teams where there is genuine respect for all members, not animosity and greed. The sad fact is

Same here. I love mine. The only thing I would wish for in a v4 is faster polling rate. I think it’s 1000 hz now. So not the best for gaming.

There is nuance to the two separate ideas of "doing the bare minimum" and "taking pride in your work". I agree with you that taking pride in your work is important; I wish it were more highly valued nowadays, honestly. T

I wish most people valued truth. But I see an overwhelming amount of cognitive dissonance and disdain for seeking truth. Many people would rather keep family secrets secret for a myriad of reasons (with different justifiability)

Tangent to the article: human intelligence always starts from zero at birth. It seems there is a natural upper bound to the intelligence and skill level each individual can achieve (bounded by normal life span) My question to HNers is: what

Generally agree. Consider reading kernel or driver code. These areas have a huge amount of prerequisite knowledge that - I argue - makes it OK to violate the “understand at a glance” rule of thumb.
