My life has improved immeasurably since I gave up iOS dev and went back to the web. My baseline frustration level is so much lower.

You're just being pedantic now. We make decisions every day all on imperfect information. There are enough red flags around Tether that I wouldn't bet any real money on it or on the things its propping up. The burden of proof is o

Occam's razor is an heuristic for proceeding in the absence of certainty. Anyone claiming otherwise doesn't understand it. As for Tether I'm certain enough to advise anybody investing it or any currency supported by it to not

Serious skeptics of Tether are not claiming they have $0. Just much less than they claim to have.

Occam's Razor. If it was backed then they would have produced the evidence long ago instead of dancing around the issue for years and doing phony "audits".

I wrote a lot of Perl in the first dotcom era and was very happy to switch to Python and Ruby as soon as I had a chance. There were some nice things about Perl but it was just too hard to maintain a large, active perl codebase with multiple

I have been writing TS all day every day for the last 5 years. I'm aware of null coalescing and optional chaining. Every time people tell me "I just don't make type errors" I look through their issue tracker and find the

I very strongly disagree with this. Typescript is a lifesaver on a non-trivial React codebase. Writing correct code is hard and you need every advantage you can muster. Type checking is an important part of that.

Yeah if you want good performance out of a non-trivial React app you need to carefully consider memoization. It can become quite tedious making sure you've memoized the right things at the right places. MUI also can be slow if you put

React with MUI is probably the "safe" choice right now. Getting good performance out of React when you have a lot of things updating in real time can be tricky but it sounds like you probably wouldn't run into that right away

I'm a huge fain of Tailwind but if you're using react you can also consider styled-system: https://styled-system.com It seems to have a lot of the benefits of Tailwind but better integration with Typescript.

If you want acceptable performance in a reasonably complex react app you absolutely have to memoize. The fact you think this isn’t the case suggests to me you haven’t worked on a big react app.

Applying state changes in a controlled fashion is just about the last quality I'd ascribe to a non-trivial React codebase. By the time you've finished with all the ceremony of memoizing everything just right so you get acceptable

I recently ported my side project app from React to Solid and it was surprisingly straightforward. I think this is an advantage of Solid over Svelte. The concepts and syntax are quite similar and it eliminates the manual dependency tracking

Opus is a codec for speech. Opus also is very good on music, better than Ogg. At higher bitrates (~160) any of the lossy codecs will do fine but Opus sounds good under 100. https://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Opus#

What does it matter if Apple isn’t sharing your data with third parties if your entire digital life is within their walled garden? You still essentially have no privacy.
