Completely wrong. Initramfs compression is configurable on most distributions for example.

I don't know where you're getting this from but most userspace projects are very open to patches and change especially if it brings objective improvements. The only project I know of that is more conservative is GNOME. In that cas

Yet at the same time it doesn't feel like it's doing any work. It's an M1 Pro but I still don't hear the fans kick in or feel it warming up at all. So I feel like there is probably room for optimisation, whatever the upd

Yikes. As a Linux guy my instinct is to go in and fix that but I can't :( it hurts sometimes. I recall also that a guy hacking around with Linux on the M1 found a CPU feature for VM optimisation that isn't implemented in macOS. Ag

Anyone know why macOS updates take so long? It's nuts, I just upgraded to one of the new MacBooks and even on that it took about 20 minutes to upgrade from 12.0.0 to 12.0.1, so not even a major release upgrade. The CPU is wicked fast,

I seem to recall that years ago, Terraform was touted as an abstraction layer for cloud providers meaning that you could write some HCL and move between them seamlessly. A solution for vendor lock-in. Maybe that was nonsense but that's

Facebook, Meta, whatever it's called, I won't touch it with a ten foot pole. I'm a major VR enthusiast and a developer but I dumped my Rift as Facebook's tentacles took hold of Oculus. I can't say I want them to fai

Yep. GitHub Issues is not a scrum board and shouldn't be treated as such. It's for consumers to discuss with authors and other consumers.

Yeah whatever, I'll believe it when I see it. I remember when Hyperloops, tunnel motorways, and commercial electric planes were being promised with a deadline of 3+ years ago.

Scanners are overrated. They only do basic heuristics like checksumming and pattern matching. It's like antivirus for your code and we all know how useless that is.

God I want Linux on these things. Apple have built some very sexy hardware, but I'm still not into the OS. It's just... sluggish (mostly in terms of productivity, not performance), too barebones, too basic and toy-like. I need a r

Is this model public? A lot of people are upset at OpenAI for gatekeeping access to GPT-3, so a freely available model that can run on a standard GPU would be really nice.

I'm a big VR enthusiast but hell will freeze over before I touch any "metaverse" that Facebook has had a hand in creating. I used to have a Rift and dropped it like a hot coal when they started pushing the FB login BS.

This topic is an absolute minefield to navigate. But is there any hard, reliable evidence that these preferences are driven by upbringing and not something more innate? And do we really need to be paying as much attention to this gap as we

Given all the little issues MacBooks have had over the past few years, the departure of Jony Ive, the move to ARM, I'm expecting this one to be a seriously impressive iteration. I've seen the "leaked" images already and

Performance is one issue. Testability is another. How do you test your pipeline changes? I am aware there's a tool that uses Docker to simulate what GitHub does on the backend but last time I tried it, it didn't work. It's no
