I'm really liking Affinity Designer whenever I've tried it; it does pretty much everything that I use Illustrator for. I just wish it could properly injest .AI files. It opens them, but only does things with the PDF header part, r

Very true. Yet at the same time, it does route traffic to the appropriate boxes. And the name 'router', when referring to something someone has at their house, has entered the vernacular to mean "the box at home which lets me

Yes. It happens. I've had the same yelled at me, and been cursed at and flipped off (middle finger) when: - Riding on a bike/pedestrian overpass going OVER an intersection. - Riding on a bike path that is separated by grass from a

It's kinda interesting (although probably more of a simple slippery slope) to consider the intersection of this and the classic Reflections On Trusting Trust[1]. [1]: https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~rdriley/487/papers

Yep! That's because those too are highways. See this for reference: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:highway I believe a driveway would be highway=service.

Neat, but this does not seem to be all roads, it seems to be everything tagged highway=*. Specifically, non-motorized walking/biking paths and mountain bike trails (highway=path) are rendered. Ref: https://anvaka.github.io&#

#1 only worked because the machine you are talking about had one of those nifty dual USB / eSATA ports. If I recall right, a LOT of the Dell laptops my company had -- for years -- had this.

The root link is kinda different, though... What you're liking to is taking off the shelf receiver stuff and accepting the data coming out of it. The root link goes into exactly how and why all of this works, and how the author worked

Could you explain the goal of this, and how it actually attains this? It just doesn't seem clear what the client and server are here, nor what the "local server" is behind that needs piercing. Is this to, say, expose a server

I'm really liking it myself. Unfortunately I've got hundreds of hours wrapped up in making maps that I periodically update, and there's no good path to move them from Illustrator to Designer. PDFs move, but then every path co

I would posit that it's almost best if your volunteering is not really related to your profession at all. This keeps it fresh and interesting. I started riding bikes about 11 years ago and volunteering about 10. I've met a LOT of

I like bicycle stuff quite a bit. Riding bikes, working on bikes, etc. But, it's not my job... I do IT stuff. This past weekend there was a bunch of bike maintenance to be done. Swapping parts around, cleaning things, fixing stuff... I

I once took the train from the Detroit area (BMM -- Birmingham) to San Francisco, roughly... 9.5 years ago. I went alone, had a sleeper cabin to myself, and loved it. I really want to do it again, this time maybe stopping off places on the

The idea is that you didn't hear everyone, or even a significant amount of people, by default. You effectively had to find what you wanted and make efforts (joining chats, RSS feeds, etc) to tune-in. Or... make lists of things to... un

Outlook's integration of mail and calendaring (and to-dos) is very, very, very useful for business users. Thunderbird is only one piece of that.

In the Detroit area the vast (VAST!) majority of the jobs are out in the suburbs. There's a good bit of stuff in downtown, but almost everything here is in an outer ring like Warren, Auburn Hills, Novi, Dearborn, Southfield, etc.

I use an Aeropress daily and have a Moka. The biggest downsides to the Moka are time to heat up (on my gas stove), and pretty much needing to wait for it to cool down before cleaning it. It might be a little faster with an electric stove, b

I ran into this yesterday. I use Illustrator infrequently, in spurts, to do mapping work for a non-profit that donates our volunteer time to work on mountain bike trails in parks. I last purchased CS6 on a non-profit license because my of m
