It's not like they can just click a new one in place. $50 for a quality battery and $40 to pay someone a living wage to mount it in half an hour doesn't sound excessive to me. Oh, I almost forgot Apple replaced one of my earlier i

I kind of like that behaviour. You're comparing object references and get exactly the expected output instead of some magically overloaded equality operator. If you want that, just use 'equals' ;)

There are workloads where a high-end PC outclasses a Mac for the same money (think top-end GPU or lots of memory, Apple doesn't have the first and wants a king sized markup for the second). For most entry level stuff performance is not

Is there a true 'native' resolution for 3D games? Seems the display resolution is arbitrary since the content is projected and filtered regardless. I'm surprised you consider retina 'non native' since it originally

Depends on the game, it's difficult to draw a perfect circle with non-square pixels. It was possible to achieve 320x240 though, problem was you needed more than 64Kb of memory for that and couldn't get the graphics buffer in a lin

Here in the Netherlands Macs were outrageously expensive in the 90's. I only knew a few people who bothered to buy them (mostly because they wanted something simpler than a PC or because of Adobe stuff). Macs also used 'better

Probably cost a heck of a lot more than a comparable PC gaming setup in those days. Not to say it's not a great game, but Marathon uses a Doom-like 2.5D raycasting engine which doesn't need a 3D accelerator, just enough memory spe

Problem with a GUS (or any 30 year old PC part) is it's more likely to break which means you'd have to invest time and/or money in keeping it running. I sold off mine when I didn't have a working machine with ISA slots a

The issue with Oracle JDK is you _have_ to pay even if you don't use it. If there's just one person in the company using Oracle JDK they bill you for the entire company headcount. Earlier licensing practices were not much better;
