The CLP line is from Yamaha ;) Just to give a +1 to the CLP-775, I also chose that one and it's a joy to play. While the CLP display looks a bit more 'dated' than the Kawai models it starts up a lot faster and response is ins

I've still got one of the last (NeoPDP) plasma displays. While it uses a bit more energy than OLED it's not 'a few hundred watts', but tens of watts. Also, since TV's have become cheaper a new TV will probably be a

While Bootcamp worked admirably I hardly ever see it used at work. I don't think 'professionals' would be buying Macs to run Windows native very often while Windows laptops exist and would be providing much more value for the

The Java "GC" also contains the memory allocator and handling for out of memory conditions, so if you want to use Java there needs to be 'something' there to call.

Beat me to this answer ;) - I presume you can just allocate objects but you have to keep those allocations in check to prevent the JVM from terminating when going out of memory. Maybe object pooling (which helped performance in old JVM'

Because there's no need? There the 'epsilon' no-op GC in OpenJDK: https://openjdk.org/jeps/318 If you keep your object allocation in check you can use this to guarantee no GC pauses.

I had a 3rd generation iPad which became borderline unusable after updating to iOS 7 or something like that (they added the custom keyboard function then and after that update the onscreen keyboard took seconds to appear) That was before th

I'm perfectly capable of writing correct code by hand (be it XML or YAML), my problem is with the contents of the configuration files. Especially for the legacy Java EE servers there's loads of boilerplate stuff that has to be the

Those are a bit more modern devices which have enough memory they could (an probably do) use a signed firmware image so it's not possible to brick them by flashing random garbage to the eeprom.

Nope, people bought a PC because it was good for learning/office and they were even subsidised here. Amiga had a reputation for being more a kind of fancy game machine in the EU.

I wouldn't underestimate the amount of PC enthousiasm generated by piracy in the late-80's and 90's, especially here in the EU where imported games were priced way above something kids could afford with pocket money. Didn

Of course PC's were expensive, but most people at the time bought PC's for those fancy new word processors and spreadsheets. A small price increase for added sound capability is an easier sell than a dedicated gaming console which

Fact that PHP was built-in on virtually every Linux distribution and hosting was dirt cheap since one server could easily host hundreds of customers helped too I guess. Java and .NET never were after the $5/month hosting market.

Seems the setting screens are loaded on-demand, maybe using some plug-in architecture that results in overhead. Also, some panels require network communication which makes them even slower. But even then, I agree there's no excuse.
