I think technically you are correct about --help being valid. But in practice, I use --help only in an interactive context where the exit code does not matter so I've never been bitten by the subtle difference. I tried using $0 years a

The problem I have with bash arrays is that I use them so infrequently that I cannot remember its syntax. I have to look up the manual each time, and it's difficult to find things in the bash man pages.

You mean like this? echo "message" 1>&2 Yes, that's probably a good idea, though I cannot recall this causing a problem for any script that I've written so far.

I start all my bash scripts from the following template, then modify it as needed. It is not fancy, but I think it supports the lowest common denominator that is compatible with other flag processing systems in all other languages that I am

I would be curious to know what the issue was, so that I can fix it. I have used it with both ESP8266 and ESP32, and do not know of any problems.

Yup, I have the same problem with UML diagrams. I always end up drawing the UML or ER diagrams by hand (i.e. manually), incorporating the tables/fields/relationships that seem interesting, leaving out the things that aren't.

I think my problem is that many of your sentence fragments are not complete sentences. You keep dropping the Subject and/or Verb of the sentence. In the above post, "But spent the last decade... ESL speakers.", you dropped th

I understand your sentiment. But the highest marginal estate tax rate is currently 40%, for amounts above $1M (after deducting applicable exemptions). That seems high enough. The problem is that the estate tax system is so complex, so full

Yes, I think that the highlighted statement is overly hyperbolic. A better one would be something like: "A major effect of software is to facilitate bureaucratic complexity, therefore it is beneficial for some projects to fail." T

Great quote. Aside: I thought it originated from John Keynes, but it looks like that earliest written record goes back to 1983 to a financial analyst named Gary Shilling: https://quoteinvestigator.com/2011/08/09&#x

At the risk of over generalizing, I think 2 things are going on: 1) They hire a lot of smart but inexperienced people. I've noticed that those kinds of programmers often write clever and overengineered things, which means overly comple
